So the anime and manga section is separated on this forum...kind of a pain, but I guess this will make it easier to find a manga OR an anime to read/watch. (I did have a bit of a trouble digging through a list of animes AND mangas when I was searching for animes to watch xD)

Code Geass R1 + R2
The Empire of Britannia has invaded Japan using giant robot weapons called Knightmare Frames. Japan is now referred to as Area 11, and its people the 11's. A Britannian who was living in Japan at the time, Lelouch, vowed to his Japanese friend Suzaku that he'd destroy Britannia. Years later, Lelouch is in high school, but regularly skips out of school to go play chess and gamble on himself. One day, he stumbles on terrorists 11's who've stolen a military secret and is caught by a member of the Britannian task force sent after them, who is Suzaku. As the rest of the squad arrives, Suzaku is shot for disobeying orders, while the military secret, a young girl, gives Lelouch the power of Geass, which makes anyone obey any order. While Suzaku is secretly made the pilot of Britannia's brand new prototype Knightmare, Lancelot, Lelouch becomes the masked Zero to lead the rebellion to destroy Britannia once and for all.
(So....when for those of you who've watched this when it was "all the rage", I'm sorry it took me forever and a day to finally watch this and realize what a great anime it was! xD This is probably one of the more memorable animes I've ever watched! Just something about Lelouch's character...)

Scrapped Princess
Pacifica Casull is the most feared and hated person by the followers of the God Mauser. Known as the Scrapped Princess, she is the poison that will destroy the world. To avoid being killed by the zealots of Mauser, Pacifica and her adoptive brother and sister leave the village of Manhurin. Her brother, Shannon, is an expert with the sword while Racquel is proficient with magic. At every step of the way, however, someone is constantly trying to kill Pacifica, hoping to somehow avert the catastrophe that is supposed to befall the world on her 16th birthday.
(An extremely touching story! It was never hyped, but I think its still one of the better animes out there~)

Yeah...I'm ending it here. I know. There are a lot of good animes out there and I am SO not doing this post justice. So everyone post a few recommendations!
I hate losing. I hate crying. I want to keep laughing.

OMG SCRAPPED PRINCESS!! *hugs nancy* Indeed. I was so touched by that anime. I LOVED  Fulle ...LOVED HIM SO MUCH *is addicted with  his earrings*

Nicole

I just finished "Full Metal Panic!" and greatly enjoyed it.  The jump in violence and nudity in "The Second Raid" was really surprising compared to the first two seasons...

I also liked "Fruits Basket."  I could never listen to the opening and ending songs, though; they drove me crazy!!

"Candidate for Goddess" was funny, but it, like the manga, had a very incomplete feeling.  Nothing was really resolved.  :(

Thanks to werr for my very first sig!! Best birthday present ever! *hug

I recommend: CANAAN, Bakemonogatari, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 ^^

CODE GEASS is awesome~ Lelouch <333 Hahaha The ending of R2 was just so sad. Cried that time *embarrassed* LOL

Tammy

OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB! Sorry, just had to stick it in. The anime doesn't go as in-depth as the manga, but it's a lot funnier.
Also, Kyo Kara Maoh. It's funny, and has an interesting plotline. The only thing is there's just a tiny bit of shounen-ai (two boys get engaged) but it's treated as a running gag and they don't actually do anything.
Oh wow.. so they're iphone earpods? Wait, I mean, earrings! No! EARPHONES!!! I MEANT EARPHONES!
If you're reading this, then good for you. :3

Mithril

5 Centimers Per Second - This made me cry. I love it so much <3

Chobits - One of my all time favorites ^_^ Chi is just so cute~ it's funny and very romantic >_< My guy friend said he almost cried at the last episode lol.

Claymore - I didn't like the first few episodes but it gets better and better. Kinda made me cry too.

And just like mithril, it made me cry too..*sniff*...xD

Michiko

Oh I remembered when I watched that movie. It was really nice :)
Makoto Shinkai is an awesome writer. I've watched another movie of his' and it made me cry ^^;
On Byosoku, the composer of the songs there got me addicted to keep on listening to them - Tenmon. Lol

@Cheradee ghost hunt is my life! I've watched it countless times (note the avatar) it's so good!

@Tammy Ouran High School Host Club is truly cool, but I don't really like the character of Tamaki. SPOLERS SPOILERS OMG OMG SPOILERS SPOILERSSSSSS....... i hate that the one character i don't like is the one that she ends up with. but i absolutely love the twins (i like hikaru better than kaoru, duh) and my absolute favorite would have to be Kyouya! he's amazing! HaruhiXKyouya forever! and Mori is too cool for words. and hani..... annoys me just a tad : P but it's really good, and it's really fun to get to know the characters. esp CASSANODA KUN!!!! lmao

Full Metal Alchemist is really good, but it's a little long. and they're re-making it because the first show went on a HUGE tangent from the manga, which wasn't finished yet

Toradora! was the best thing i've watched in a while! and yes, the exclamation point is actually part of the title. it's very romantic, but also very silly at times.... well, a lot of the time. i LOVE all of the characters, they're just so hard not to like! and it's not one of those stupid ones where it's really easily predictable. it's like, just predictable enough. and the songs are really fun, and sung by the characters, especially Minorin, who is voiced by YUI! (that exclamation point is not part of the title). the last few eps get dramatic and kind of sad, but it's beautiful and fun and hysterical! and Taiga is so short! rofl, watch it NOW!

Yume

Actually I think FMA isn't that long when you compare to other epic shounen series. XD" But well, I still prefer the manga so I'd probably recommend the newer BROTHERHOOD over the older one.

And in Ouran's anime Haruhi's romance isn't really confirmed so yeah, the anime is just all good fun and laughter.

Chobits:
The story centers on the life of Hideki Motosuwa, a repeat student attempting to qualify for university by studying at Seki prep school in Tokyo. Besides a girlfriend, he dreams of having a persocom (?????): an android used as a personal computer, which is expensive. On his way home one evening, he stumbles across a persocom in the form of a beautiful girl with long hair lying against a pile of trash bags, and he carries her home. Upon turning her on, she instantly regards Hideki with adoration. The only word the persocom seems capable of saying is "chi" (??, Chii?), thus he names her Chi. Hideki assumes that there must be something wrong with her, and so the following morning Hideki's neighbor Hiromu Shimbo tries to analyze her with his mobile persocom Plum, and after Plum crashes concludes that she must be custom-made.

Shiki

Black Cat - I love it! It's funny and has  a lot of action~ the art is pretty good =]
Chobits - ^^ Yup! Has a very cute storyline! And I laugh my butt out at some scene  :woohehe:

Code Geass - IT'S AWESOME WITH GOOD TWISTS! Some of my friends say it's like Death Note mixed with Gundam xD

Fate/Stay Night - lol you just gotta love Saber and the no stop action with a little bit of romance!

Shugo Chara! & Shugo Chara! Doki! - Well some people might also want to read it instead of watching it since the fillers might kill you~ However it's a really good show =] (Some of you might think it's a bit girly but I like it XD)

Naruto- (just stating the obvious =])
Naruto closely follows the life of a boy who is feared and detested by the villagers of the hidden leaf village of Konoha. The distrust of the boy has little to do with the boy himself, but it's what's inside him that causes anxiety. Long before Naruto came to be, a Kyuubi (demon fox) with great fury and power waged war taking many lives. The battle ensued for a long time until a man known as the Fourth Hokage, Yondaime, the strongest ninja in Konoha, fiercely fought the Kyuubi. The fight was soon won by Yondaime as he sealed the evil demon in a human body. Thus the boy, Naruto, was born. As Naruto grows he decides to become the strongest ninja in Konoha in an effort to show everyone that he is not as they perceive him to be, but is a human being worthy of love and admiration. But the road to becoming Hokage, the title for the strongest ninja in Konoha, is a long and arduous one. It is a path filled with betrayal, pain, and loss; but with hard work, Naruto may achieve Hokage.

Bleach- once again
Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old boy that has an ability to see ghosts/spirits. Because of his ability, he is able to meet a female death god (a.k.a Shinigami) named Kuchiki Rukia. To save his family and friends from unwanted soul-eating spirits (Hollows), Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo. As Rukia takes on a human shell, together they solve mysteries involving spirits and hollows until from the spirit world comes 2 other shinigamis explaining that it is illegal to transfer Shinigami powers to humans and Rukia exceeded the time limit to stay in the human world. After they sentence her death for breaking the laws, Ichigo snaps and swears to everyone he will retrieve Rukia by breaking into the spirit world.

Aaah D: I remember Scrapped Princess! I also remember that I never really got to watch it all... At the time that I tried it out, it hadn't even been translated yet  :donwan:

Must. Watch. Now.

I've also tried Code Geass -- Watched the 1st season and then went to wiki and accidentally read the summary for the 2nd season and found out what happened in the end. Of course, I ended up not watching it.

I'll really recommend:
Red Garden (it is NOT about garderning... haha)
Chrome Shelled Regios
Soul Eater
Darker Than Black (THIS IS SO GOOD!!!)
Garei-zero
Gundam Seed(its good but so old.. quality not so good)

Most of them is action or mystery...  my fav

DTB season two ended quite abruptly. Too many thing were left unexplained and the last episode ended very openly, so I suspect, although they say otherwise, that there will be another season. It will just be too dumb even for anime directors to leave it like that...

Shiki

I don't know if any of you heard about it... Spice and Wolf. It has 2 series right now but I am pretty sure that there will be a 3rd since 2 series only covered 2 or 3/7 (still ongoing) light novels. I really liked this anime (they also have a manga but slow update). Horo is so pretty and awesome~ =3

Of course you do. VA of Lelouch = Kraft Lawrence (Fukuyama Jun), VA of Kallen Stadtfeld = Holo (Koshimizu Ami). xP

Though jokes aside, Spice and Wolf is one of my more favourite anime. I actually really like the voice acting of Holo. If I were to define perfection, to me, her voice of Holo is pretty damn close >_>

Toradora!

It's a new school year and Ryuuji Takasu discovers not only is he in the same class as his best friend, Yusaku Kitamura, but also Minori Kukshieda whom he's had an undisclosed crush on for quite some time. Along with Kitamura and Minori is Minori's best friend, the "Palmtop Tiger", tiny Taiga Aisaka whom, despite her small stature, takes nothing from nobody. (When unflattering pictures of her in a bathing suit were circulated, "Of course, I made it rain blood in the photography club.") Taiga is secretly in love with Kitamura and she and Ryuuji, despite an oil and water relationship, agree to mutually support each other in their quests for their heart's desire.

Actually... Toradora is (at least the manga it's based on) a shounen manga ;)

Not sure if anyone has mentioned them but I'd recommend these to people!

Seirei no Moribito:
Based on a fantasy novel by Uehashi Naoko & Futatsugi Saki.

Once every 100 years, a water spirit implants an egg into a person who then becomes the Guardian of the Sacred Spirit. This time, the responsibility falls on Chagum, the Second Prince of the New Yogo Empire.

The Emperor, fearing that the spirit's possession of Chagum could destroy the prestige of the royal family, attempts to have Chagum killed. As a result, the Second Empress secretly asks a female bodyguard, Balsa, to abscond with Chagum.

Kemono no Souja Erin:
* Based on the fantasy novel series written by Uehashi Nahoko (Seirei no Moribito).

Kemono no Souja Erin is about a young woman who is drawn into a war between kingdoms.

10-year-old Erin is a young girl who lives with her mother in the Tai Koh Region in the small Village of Ake. She has a big love for animals, especially the Touda, dragon-like creatures used in the war.

Her mother Soyon was originally of the Mist People, an ancient clan who have members with green hair and eyes, and is rumored to follow in the ancient ways, practice magic, and hide in the mist. But despite her genealogy, they stay in the village because Erin's late father was the son of the village chief and Soyon is the head Touda doctor.

One day however a tradegy happens which changes Erin's life forever.

Dance in the vamp bund is not kind of loli. It is loli. We don't care how old she is. She doesn't look that way and runs around everywhere naked.

Are you saying there is no loli manga? There is and it can be much more disturbing than any anime, because they censor the TV series.

Phoenix Lolita Complex.

Aside from that, anime is far from being as bad as you describe it. Besides, you shouldn't judge all anime based on one, now should you?

Furgeson

Oh yes, yes the manga is faaaaaar worse. XD
I ment no offense, i was only making fun of some anime that i can't follow at all.  :swt:
But, in general, I prefer reading manga than watching anime.
I've watched a ton of anime- I've grown up with that weird blue cat and sailor moon, and then
a ton of shoujo, a ton of shounen, and this year, Nodame Cantabile Finale...
That, my friend, was some good anime. In my opinion of course. XD

werr

I haven't yet seen Nodame Cantible, but plan to very soon, I heard it was good. I just wonder how they managed to stretch the story so much, they made 3 seasons...

Furgeson

Ahhh,
you changed your avatar/sig. Very nice  :goodjob:
Nodame Cantabile Finale is very dif from the plot of the manga.
It starts more in the middle of things and focuses on the relationship and nodame's progress blah.
Everything else is the same though, the personalities, the humor, and to most extents, the art. XD
it was really wonderful. Full recommendation.

Ef a tale of memories

This anime is perhaps the best romance anime I have seen. It is beautifully made and it almost made me shed some tears and that is not an easy feat.

About Nodame...
I watched only anime and I must say that the first season was almost perfect. Because of that I really started to take interest in classic music and even thought of learning how to play piano!
The 2nd and 3rd seasons were ok. Of course it was nice to see Nodame and Chiaki again and how they and their relationship developed (along with their careers) but for me it felt that something was missing and sometimes the time gap that was shown in anime didn't felt like that (and as I said above I haven't red the manga yet), so it could have been even longer, maybe even  should have been...

But all in all it's one of my favorite anime.  :shy:

yama-chan

I do think that good anime are very little nowadays. Most of them do look kinda fake. So I only watch the better ones.

I'm currently watching
Arakawa Under The Bridge.
It's hilarious!

Angel Beats!
It's really touching and also funny. I fully recommend it.

Durarara!
This is good. But you have to actually watch at least a few episodes to understand it. It's confusing in the begining.

Katanagateri
It's taking a lot time for it to be subbed. The plot is interesting. But some episodes are a major let down

It takes more time to be subbed because it is 50 minutes long. It takes a lot of time to be released, because as Sharwin said it is released one episode per month. The plot is just great if you ask me and so far there has not been a single episode that has been a let down.

I agree about the rest of the anime you watch except for Hakuouki, which is a freaking reverse harem with an awful amount of bishounens...

Psst, this is the Anime thread, the manga forum is above this one.

And Dance in the Vampire Bund has an anime too.

Actually, I like them both equally. When I get sick of little boys emotional problems, i go read about little girls emotional problems, and then i switch back. It's really kinda sad.  But seriously, I do enjoy shoujo every so often, actually reading it brought me here. Heres to Blackbird.

Furgeson

NIE FTW!
You should read some Josei.
Just like I should just read nothing and sleep.  :nitex: <--- So cute <3333 O.o

NieYiFan

No thax. Seinen and Josei tend to give me headaches. I like my manganime nice and simple.

icewing

xD same.  it messes my mind up so i go to my shounen medicine box for help.

Furgeson

shame, shame. I like the brain twisting...
However, my absolute favorite is still tragedy. GET THAT BOX OF TISSUES! NOW!!!

icewing

aw............tragedy......... :touched:  the ending's always so sad and touching

NieYiFan

What is-----Tragedy???? ??? it sounds yummy  :bingo:

icewing

basically, it's a type of manga that has a sad ending. unresolved and sad. is that right Lil?

Furgeson

I love it when everyone dies. I have a sob fest. It's just fun. No other word for it! XDDD

icewing
