I think shounen tend to have a long(er) plot than shoujo, that's why most shoujo stops at a certain point. I suppose they will be deemed very draggy if way too long (definitely not skip beat, wouldn't want it to end yet!).

I think Han Yu Rang's Love in the Mask is also pretty long. It's 21 volumes and running. I have not felt the draggy-ness yet but I think it's coming soon lol

Shounen manga will be too short if they stop in volume 10 or something ^^; shounen manga are usually more complicated in terms of plot and character so anything shorter than 20+ volumes, I wouldn't like to read.

yeah ^^ the only pretty-long-but-not-draggy that I could think of is Skip Beat and Tokyo Crazy Paradise (19 volumes).

Indeed, averagely shoujo is around 9-10 volumes ^_____^ usually less than 20 I suppose. Perhaps that's why I don't get satisfaction from reading one-shots

Hmmm, the longest huh? How about if I answer that with the longest running since a definition like the most chapters (and from what I saw, that's how a lot of people were answering) seems too easy.

I read Garasu no Kamen (Glass Mask) which began in 1976 and is still being written and published to this day.

Oh, and by the way, even though the author, Miuchi Suzue, said she saw the end coming a couple of years ago, there's not one in sight (yet).

Probably Naruto and Bleach. My favourite shonen series was actually Kekkaishi, that was probably also quite long. More leisurely and mature than most shonen series as well. Aaah I miss that series!

hmm well yeah, one piece and naruto are good, although sometimes one piece seems a bit forced, like how every time there's a fight, they always somehow separate themselves into one on ones and then Oda has go Meanwhile! this fight is happening like this, and that fight is happening like that. It got a bit confusing sometimes especially in the CP9 ark.

Hm, the fighting is part of the series, so you either like it or you don't I suppose. Sometimes it can get confusing, but the splitting up in one on ones does illustrate their abilities better and if they gang up on one enemy, it would just be boring...

it's actually one of the best mangas out there, seriously, so many people stereotypically hate naruto cuz of its length and popularity but to those who've read it, just looking back at the chapters and I can see that none of the arcs were ever boring. Bleach and one piece had arc that I just couldn't read but naruto, it's kept being interesting throughout the entire manga. That's why it's so popular.
