What languages are you learning/do you speak?

I'm just curious about what everyone speaks. My first language was Tagalog (can barely speak it now  ) and English. I'm currently learning Japanese, Spanish, and relearning Tagalog. Is anyone here learning a different language? How many languages do you speak? What was your first language?

gee, everyone here knows chinese or japanese...though that is to be expected, i'm currently on my 3rd? month of french...ya...need a partner to help because i can't even differentiate adjectives from adverbs in english let alone french, i'm good with most of the french vocabulary so far, i just crap when it comes to grammar and spelling xD...my first language is vietnamese...stopped learning at 6, i could hold hours long convo with anyone from vietnam and identify accents and their regions, i just can't read xD..and of course english...i think japanese sounds interesting to me, by the way, did i mention i need help with french?

Eh... I totally agree that french is actually hard. I took it for 3 month and dropped the subject as i have no talent in pronounciation. And French for me was just impossible to pronouce. I had a hard time at it. It was the first and last new language I took. I realised that languages is just not my stuff.

I can speak/read/write English, Chinese and Japanese. Suck in French. Wanna try taking up Korean because it seems popular and wants see how it feels to speak it.

I can speak both Korean and English fluently, read and write english fluently, but as for korean, it's a bit rusty, but I still know how to read and understand more or less, and if I don't, I ask my parents. As for the writing portion in Korean, it's extremely rusty
I pretty much know how to speak and read spanish, but it's been a few years since I dropped the spanish course, so it might be extremely rusty.

I live in the United States and I speak English. I took three years total of Spanish, and am one semester away from finishing it. Although failed it.... so in total I succeed only in my native tongue lol . I would seriously jump on the opportunity to learn Japanese though!!!!

By technicality, yes. In Korea - and if I'm not mistaken, Japan and China as well - if you were to be born in let's say 1990, where you would be considered 20 in US, you'd be considered 21 in Korea

In Korea, China and Japan (if China and Japan does it the same as Korea, which I'm positive they do), if you're zero year old, you're not even considered to be born - yet. But the second you're born, it's basically the doctors saying, "Hey! Congratulations! You got a healthy one year old!"

My french Teacher/tutor told me that if you have learned French, Portuguese and Spanish will be a breeze.
She told me she knew those languages and that when people are amazed at that...shes sorta embarassed and say...they are pretty much 1 language. Since they are Romance Languages after all. look it up if you don't know
btw BleachFreak, Vietnam does that too...i'd be considered about 16 turning 17 by now then since they count the 9 months you were in the stomach xD

yes, you're right.. they are romance language.. so, there are a little bit "easier" to learn... if you learn latin first, then Spanish, Franch and Portuguese are much easier...  I'm from Cordoba, Argentina  (NOT Buenos Aires) German Translator are the most well paid translators.. as they are paid for the number of letters the word has.. but, English Translators are well paid also..

Not exactly liking it, though. I take a class with native Spanish-speakers, and they make me feel so inferior. =_=

I really, really, really wanna learn Japanese~ But I have no time, and Japanese is not exactly the most useful language in RL.

cantonese was my 1st language (i think is more to dialect),english, mandarin, malay and little bit of all the dialects that the chinese speak.

Um, other than English I can understand food related dialogues in Mandarin, insult people in Cantonese and speak basic Teochew, though my accent is honestly atrocious. I've heard natives of the language speak it and I sound totally different to them. Perhaps I can call it pseudo-TeoChew? OTL

I'm also studying Japanese. Hoping to get N2 by the end of this year~ (m-manga is a great motivator, lol  ) And I want to learn French or Spanish or maybe try my hand at Korean again.

Ok so:
my first language is German, but I'm also completely fluent in English (my English was actually better that my German for some time...). I studied Latin for 2 year, but forgot almost all of it :D. I know enough French to get by, but I'm not really good at it and it's the same with Romanian. Of course I know those few standard words and phrases in Japanese but that's about it from that language.
My goal is to become fluent in at least 5 languages, cause I simply love being able to communicate with people in their own language. :D

I can understand Spanish, Portuguese and Italian almost perfectly, but I can neither speak nor write them. I've studied Latin for a few years, and since it's very close to my native language, it was kinda easy for me to learn it. I know basic Hungarian, since there are quite a few Hungarians here in Transylvania and, inevitable, I've learned a bit of their language (especially curses). I've absorbed Japanese by watching retardedly huge amounts of anime and reading raw manga pages, plus a bit of self-study.

Shoutout! If I hadn't had adventurous ancestors, I would be speaking Dutch. As it is, I know a few words, but I'm better at saying them than spelling them, and that's not saying much. They say that Dutch is not so much a language as it is a throat disease... XD

Instead, I speak English and am somewhat conversant in Spanish with a goal of someday being fluent.
