When I was in high school, there were a TON of little scholarships available, and it was entirely based on actual scholarship.  Grades and volunteer work.  As long as you volunteered with something at least one summer of school and had a B average, you had a pretty good chance.  Then it was based on how good your essay was.

So are you saying that people majoring in pre-med, business, or pre-law are first picks for scholarships? I was from a small farming community so it was all ag. stuff.  I didn't get any because the preference went to someone majoring in agriculture.  I majored in art.  In fact, most of the scholarships in town went to ONE girl - our valedictorian.  But her family was dirt poor and she'd worked hard for them so no one begrudged them to her. 

She'd discovered an endangered species of plant on her family's farm and that discovery saved it from being foreclosed because the bank wouldn't have protected it.  She got plant sanctuary status for her farm or something to protect it for like 50 years, saving her family as well as the farm and the plant.  That kind of cast the rest of us and our community service hours in shadow...

The Teenage Father story:
Well, a few years ago, back when Quila's little brother was still a few months old, I suddenly found myself left alone with him in his pram. We were at the mall and Quila and her mum had gone to look at clothes (girls...) so I was left to my own devices for a bit. About 20mins from their departure, her little brother woke up crying. I tried to feed him from his milk bottle but that failed. So I rocked the pram gently and that failed too. So I picked him up from his pram and kinda rocked him around while uhhh, attempting to sing him a lullaby. In the midst of doing this, an old lady came up to me and asked: "How old is he?" and I replied: "Only about 8 months." And she gave me this horrified look as she eyed me up and down. > .>

Maybe I'll tell the "Sister's Boyfriend" story when I stop shuddering over it. xD

I get mistaken for a mother almost every other day at work. As well as a teacher. 

I work as a childcare assistant at a daycare that is run by the local school district and I'll be playing with a kid or two and another child will come up and ask if I'm their mom. xP And then I get asked "Who's mom are you?" "What kind of teacher are you?" and when I asked the kids how old they think I am they say 23-25. (I'm 19.)

The other night it was really cute. I was walking through Wal-mart with my boyfriend and I saw one of the kids that was really attached to me during Summer Latch Key. And I waved at her. She kind of looked at me strangely for a second. [I was wearing contacts when all the kids have ever seen me with is glasses] and then I said "Hi Hayden" and it took her a moment and then she recognized me and her face lit up and she ran up to me and hugged me.

It was so cute.

yup, it was a requirement in our school. we have to teach christian religion (since my school was a catholic school) to elementary 1 hour a day every week and at the end of the school year, there will be a culminating activity to see what the students have learned from us. i was the one that taught my student (jay-jay) in poster making and i was realllllyyyyyyy happy for her  when she got first place

Sudoku's fun! As are those grid puzzles where you're given a list of names and a list of traits (like professions or subjects studying or something) and then clues/riddles.  You have to use the clues to figure out who has what trait, and fill in the missing names & traits.

My friends and I were just coming back from the library an hour ago to class. And I went to my locker to get out my chip bag, but my friends were all staring at me awkwardly. So after I finally got into class, a bunch of my other friends started staring at me and my chip bag. There mouth was drooling, and so I gave up  & open the bags of RUFFLE and CHEETOS PUFF. My friends all jump up and grab like a hungry mob, even though we came out of lunch period.
