Well, a talented writer would be able to incorporate enough action and mystery to keep all kinds of readers interested. Personally, a good plot needs to build up a good problem in the story with many subplots. The solution shouldn't be easy to guess, and there should be a lot of false leads.
Sometimes, I also like when a manga answer questions, but reveals more mysteries, like in Pandora Hearts. Jun Mochizuki keeps feeding us answers about Alice's real identity while opening up more questions about Oz's identity. I just love that series!

lol, can't begin to understand the appeal of harems, but anti-harem shoujo is lov3li. (Fruit baskets, ouran, all the old faves. I mean, the amount of bishies you can choose from is just mind-warbling! XD)

Good plots...I haven't read a good plot in a while. I remember being high on Code Geass' plot, but I got over that a little too soon for it to be a favorite plot. I love suspense thriller horror things, but there just haven't been too many manga like that that I've read. If anyone has suggestions, that'd be great.
