Best dub?

I just finished watching Baccano a week ago, and I've been so obsessed that I've been gushing these like Baccano-love-love-love-Baccano pheremones. Mostly because Baccano has these amazing accents in the English dub. Or maybe it's because Bac so similar to DRRR. Or maybe because of Jacuzzi. And Isaac/Meria whose names I assure you with confidence I just spelt wrong. Or maybe it's because of that jaw-dropping opening T.T It's even better than bebop, and I thought that opening was such a unique use of jazz music! XD

Anyway, what's your favorite dubbed series? Be it pokemon or silent film, SHARE! :D

Ryu

>.>
<.<

Of course it's Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
How can you not love a series where the seiyuus can sing wickedly well and have Rebocon concerts.
:donwan:
(Gokudera's seiyuu, Ichinose Hidekazu, is the seiyuu for Sasuke from Naruto.)

Furgeson

You know Sasuke's seiyuu also does someone from Hetalia (i think it was England >.<), right? XD It's amazing how silly Hetalia seems next Sasuke's determination to bleed from his eyes and wear skimpy clothing.

Ryu

 :omg: I WAS WRONGGGGG
Sasuke's voiced by some dude named Noriaki Sugiyama...

But I still love Hidekazu~

For me, the best dub out there is the one of Eureka Seven. It is one of the few anime I could bear to watch dubbed and on of the even fewer where I thought the voices fit the characters.

I would have to say for the best dubbed anime would be Full Metal Alchemist whenever its viewed on television.

I can't stand anime, except for the ones on that one cartoon-y channel, being dubbed  :omg:

Yuukii

I hate all dubbed animes except for digimon and pokemon  :goodjob:

Ew, pokemon? No way. Ash sounds 12, Brock sounds exceptionally idiotic, and all the girls (villian or not) sound like they sucked in too much helium.

Dubs deserve respect though. At least the voice actors tried T_T Even though the dub totally ruined Ouran for me. Seriously "Haruhi Fudge-ioka"?? LOLWHUT? AMERICAN VOICE ACTOR MUST DIE.

Yuukii

Mandarin/Cantonese sub, not english  :=X: English dub...sucks. The only dub I ever watched is Digimon Frontier.

Most mandarin/cantonese sub are quite nice to me, especially KWMS.  :goodjob:

Furgeson

Should I know what you're talking about when you say "KWMS"? For some reason, my mind's drawing a blank...

Yuukii

Sorry  Kaichou wa maid-sama. It's such a bother to type everything out  :swt:

Koyue

Anime sounds much much much much better when it's an[y] Asian dub. English dubs  sound terrible. Ane and I would immediately pause and change the web page we're on when we hear an English dub. It never sounds natural  :vomit:

I would say: Sadly disappointed.

oOblackwhiteOo

I'd have to say Beck. Beck is wayy better dubbed because for one, most of the songs are english and the dubbed version has awesome singers who sing it well. *skip

I don't usually like watching English dubs. Although I thought they did a pretty good job on Moribito:  Guardian of the Spirit (seirei no moribito in Japanese). The only reason I watched it in the dub is because my sisters were watching it with me. Oh, and I did like the dub for the Last Exile.

The only anime I'll really watch dubbed is Studio Ghibli, because Disney did an amazing job. Even then, the only one of those I prefer in English over Japanese is Howl's Moving Castle. Billy Crystal was way better as Calcifer. :goodjob:

Snookies12

My favorite dubs were, Full Metal Alchemist (as well as Brotherhood of course), Inuyasha, and Trigun!  I don't tend to watch a lot of dubbed anime, mainly for the sole reason of it being a bit behind in most cases.  When I start a series I like to plow right through and watch it all over the course of like, a day or two.   :=X:

Angel~

I hate dubs. It sounds strange... I was forced to watch Inuyasha in dubs, which made me drop it... I loved it so much.... :'(

`Roze`

My favorite Dubs would probably have to be Soul Eater and Inuyasha. I grew up watching dubs so they don't really bother me. ^^;

One that really bothers me is that they picked Vic to be Zero's voice actor in Vampire Knight. I can't believe they did that! He does not match the Zero in my head.  :'( That ruined the dubbed Vk for me. I just watch subs.

Igave up on dubs.... They try to mess up my ideal picture... Evil dubbers!

I generally don't like watching dubbed anime or drama because I like the sound and quality of Japanese voice.

But I have to say, the English dub for Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) was good.   :bingo:

tinnako

I think the FMA dub was pretty good. Though Vic Mignogna is not a bad voice actor, I feel he's been overused as the main male character because he was really popular in FMA. Superb as Ed, but could I ever see him as Fai in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle? Daisuke in DNAngel? Yoshimori in Kekkaishi? No, not really. I think we need more diversity in English dubbing simply because it's too easy for every series to sound the same.  And some voice actors need a bit more coaching on how to pronounce Japanese names a bit more authentically, It's a bit painful hearing some of them strain over their rolling Rs and generally mashing up names ><.

Personally dubs irritate me a bit when they come across as unabashedly American. Not so much the voices (I guess the fact all their voice actors are from the US can't be helped) but in the phrases or 'references' that sneak into anime and manga sometimes. No offense to y'all , but if a series is set in Japan, (or anywhere outside of the US) it would be nice if the language used was something non-Americans could also appreciate. I mean, if it was entirely in British slang it would probably be equally irritating to you guys, so the same courtesy in reverse would be good ;)

I love subs, too, naturally, the original voices often work so well that it's hard to get the same effect in a new language. But I think that would work equally in reverse. So if I were to watch, say, a Japanese dub of Avengers Assemble, I would find that as horrendous as an English anime dub.  (Actually, there's a thought! XD)

Angel~

There are a rare few where the dub isn't that bad, for example Inuyasha wasn't that horrendous, but I still prefer the subbed versions.

I think we can conclude from our various rants that we should just watch everything subbed, since that way the quality of the anime/series/other stuff will be saved.  SUBS FOR LIFE!

[just a side note, life action pictures should NEVER, EVER be dubbed, that is just too terrible to both watch and listen to]

thanks to Shineshan <3

Pau

I agree. Subs are waayyy better...

thought dubs are good the way they say it was well...you know...the "it's an anime but why do i feel like its not anime?" feeling. especially those fansubs where fans would go and make their own dubs

Vauxhall

Dubs annoy the hell out of me since I think they don't really provide the raw/authentic experience you get when watching the same thing, but with subs. I also think Japanese seiyuus have a better grasp of what's going on seeing as the original thing was written with influence from their own culture. Plus, it's strange to see the "mouth flaps" being off-time with English dubs, sometimes...

That said, I think the best dubs I've watched was FMA and Naruto (just Naruto, not Shippuden). I managed to sit through the entirety of dubs for both animes and it didn't bother me too much, especially when I switched to subs for the rest of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. :goodjob:
Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.

Pau

I think that's why most anime website would use subbed ones instead of dubs

Aurelia

The only problem I have with subs is that you have to look down and read the words! Then you can't appreciate the art as much! T_T Now if one day I was to learn japanese...  :o_o:

...And there go my fishbots! Thank you Rioui Poo~! *hugs*

Vauxhall

Eh, Lia, it's not too bad!
When you watch a lot of anime, you catch what they mean 70% of the time while you're busy appreciating the art. xD

Soraiiya

FMA was and is the only anime I will ever watch dubbed, and only because it had an excellent dub. I think at one point I even liked it more than the sub (?! What was I thinking?! But it was quite good, in all seriousness). HOWEVER, I hate dubs in general and refuse to ever watch anything dubbed. Naruto was scary when I heard the commercial when it first came out...

Yeah, I agree with that. Naruto dub was pretty horrible but I found it bearable, at the very least. xD Which goes for a lot since I normally avoid dubs at all costs. *shudders*

Pau

Now that you mention it.... I think dubs were the reason why I never watched Naruto in the first place  :swt:

`Shally.

I thin FMA was the best to me or Sakura Taisen (REALLY REALLY old anime), but uhm, yeah. FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) actually put feelings in their voice, while most of the other dubs sound like high pitch girls.

Who in their right mind would actually do that? Like seriously, that totally defeats the purpose of an anime ;-;

Zephyr of the Mist

Personally I think the Hetalia dub is better than the subs, because of the accents... the subbed version doesn't have accents and the voice acting is just as good either way.

for some reason...i dont like the plot :swt:

Aurelia

LOL really, there isn't a plot xD

To really enjoy it, you have to know your history! ^_^

...And there go my fishbots! Thank you Rioui Poo~! *hugs*

Soraiiya

yeah, that's why i didn't feel like watching hetalia either, LOL. you could watch rurouni kenshin if you're interested in history but not really xD and inuyasha i guess, to some extent (idk i've never watched inuyasha so i can't tell you for sure). there's plenty of cool historical animes out there, you just gotta find them~

i think the only historical anime i've ever watched was rurouni  kenshin

Aurelia

Inuyasha was probably my first love for an, er... "Official" anime ^_^

It's not too historical, the only thing that makes it historical is the fact that she goes to the feudal japan era... But besides that nothing much! xD

...And there go my fishbots! Thank you Rioui Poo~! *hugs*

Pau

well. you could say inuyasha has a "historical" background but i don' t think youll be able to find something for a japanese history essay... :swt:

Angel~

I highly doubt that indeed...

thanks to Shineshan <3

Pau

I also think rurouni kenshin's dub isn't that bad either

Angel~

It was okayish, but I liked the original voices better

I am about to start reading rurouni kenshin! *hovers over manga app*

oh btw. i saw/glimpse a movie where kenshin was already a dad. was that in the manga too?

I guess so. makes me wonder what it would look like if the one that dubbed it had an accent  :hmmm:

Angel~

I agree, that would be interesting  :hmmm:
