Best Anime of All Time....

What, in your opinion, has been the best anime you've seen of all time and why?



Personally, Im partial to Kenshin. I adored how much actual Japanese history it contained.

Revolutionary Girl Utena. There has never been a similar anime and most likely there never will be. It is unique in any possible way and that's what I value the most in an anime. It is also able to be hilarious one moment and then sadder than The grave of the fireflies the next. And the symbolism used in it, is really interesting, though you might need to re-watch it a time or two in order to understand all of it.

Though the premise is kind of misleading. All the story plot that's explained isn't really the focus of the anime (in the wasy most anime focus on the story). Utena is more psychological than anything else.

For me it has to be Clannad season one and two! I just love the story a lot. It's the anime that is responsible for buckets of my mainly tears XD even thought it is sad, there are a lot of funny and touching scenes to give a break for your eyes. That anime really made me see the world in a different way and even now I still remember how red my eyes were when I watched the last ten episode in one night (2nd season). It was great!

Rosario + Vampire? Are you even remotely serious? That anime was just plain bad. Even the manga, that is about fifty times better, I wouldn't place as my number one, much less that pathetic excuse of an adaptation.

And Lily, please don't compare CG to DTB...

Yeah I have to agree that Clannad's art is not the best but the story balance it off. Plus after some episodes you will get used to that art and will begin to mind it less. The art also kept me away from consider watching it but after some friends recommendation I started to watch it and it was worth it!

Bets anime? I used to watch alot and the one I enjoyed the most was acctually Elfen lied. Even though it's alot of gore in it (KIDS STAY OUT) it got some really really nice parts!
Othervise I gues I watched the mainstream mangas but don't enjoy mainstream to much nowadays :p

I agreeeee! Nodame is an all-time favorite, and a bit of a classic for me. Oh, Noda-chan and her genius stupidity, it was just love at first sight.

Madoka is by far not a kids show. If you just look at the tags, you will see "psychological, seinen, drama, tragedy...".
And I also agree that it is simply a great anime. SHAFT made a big hit with this one.

Madoka is also on the top of my list! It was so good~ xD The ending was awesome too in my opinion. Only the art look kiddy to me at first but the way how the first episode started in a world falling apart made me think "Dang this is pretty dark huh~?"

Anime takes forever compared to Manga D; The anime classics, you know, that shall never be half as riveting in its manga form. And just as an example, did I ever mention how much DTB the manga, sucked? XD Because it absolutely diiid~

First of all, hello everyone! I just joined Transcendence so it's nice to meet you! 

For me it has to be Clannad season one and two! I just love the story a lot. I'm re-watching Clannad for the 10th time (no joke, it's become an obsession) and yet it still makes me sob.  You would think after that many times, I would be less moved by the story. However, that hasn't happened yet. I feel bipolar when I watch it because I switch back and forth between laughing and crying a billion times.

Anywho, I wholeheartedly agree with Shiki, GREAT anime. Everyone who hasn't seen it should.

I mean, I feel like no one here has watched like Samurai Champloon or Cowboy Bebop (and CB beats Samurai anyday D:<) which doesn't surprise me because we're shoujo fangirls XD And shoujo anime sucks.

To those who find it hard to watch CLANNAD because of the art... You are just missing out on something full of awesomeness. At first I was reluctant to watch it due to the art but then I had some free time so I decided to check it out. The only thing I regret is that I didn't watch it earlier... It's just GOOD nuf said.

There's new anime coming out every season so "the best" is short off a contradicting question. The anime that left me a great impression are Clannad, Spice and Wolf, Madoka Magica, AnoHana and Drrr as well as Kanon were also really interesting. (Orders are random, not my preference)

The last good anime I saw was Shiki (I mean the anime). Marathoning it was one of the best ideas I have had in a while. At first it starts slowly, the first ten or so episodes, then little by little it picks up pace till you are watching the final episodes glued to the screen. Horror, thriller and suspense at its best.
I would't put it as "the best", but it is definitelly in my favorites.

Shiki (yes, you), since you liked Madoka, you should really consider watching it.

Ah...The BL/yaoi content of No.6 is a big controversy. 
It doesn't really have it unless you're looking for it. And even though I'm actually a fan of BL, it attracted me with its storyline and setting, not the all but nonexistant romance.

Rat, Mouse, same thing XD Though I think Rat sounds more BA than Mouse. What's a character named "MOUSE" supposed to be like? Cute fuzzy and small? Love of cheese? Though I suppose Rat does have uh negative connotations and sound EXCEPTIONALLY stupid. Its probably the only exceptional part of the series D<
Shitty mangaka. Smart, but still very disappointed. You can't just give us two of the most gay male leads in existence, and then not have them you know, do stuff (like bake cakes! :D The curry Rat made looks like shit). XP The bee transformation lEVIL PETRIFICATION DEATH sequence is also less exciting than I hoped it would be x_x And his singing? Don't get me started on that! I had to skip the whole thing...It wasnt just "blah" it was "SHIT he sounds awful T_T Why u still standing there, Shion? Run for your effing life! XD"
Anyway, I was really expecting more from the anime. I hate how anime ruins good manga characters who are sexy and amazing and awesomely gay. *cough* Kuroshitsuji *cough* Nakamura-sensei *cough*
oh well, maybe itll start to grow on me. I'll catch up on the latest episodes so I can complain to you about them, Ryu XD MWAHAHA~

Ouran was really enjoyable although the manga tells so much more story than the anime did. I hate when anime's go short. This happened with Claymore too. >.<

Right now I am on a Durarara binge, however I think it's too soon to include it in the best anime ever list. Anyone have thoughts on this? :3

I do say.... Slam Dunk!!! 
Slam DUnk is my all time fave... Sakuragi is very funny and the story is very nice... I like Mitsui!! I kinda dig men who is a shooter...  Unfortunately, I ended up with a guy who is shooter at all.. 

Bleach season 1.. is also my fave... I kinda like the story with generals fighting with each other. Their fight scenes are sooooo amazing there.. !!!! 

I also liked Fairy Tail but it has very long story just like Naruto.. that I am having difficulty catching up with their episodes due to my busy sched back then..

That's a tough one. Even though Detective Conan is my favorite, I wouldn't say it's the best. I guess my top three would be:

1. Avatar:  The Last Airbender (if that counts as anime...)
2. Seirei no Moribito
3. Baccano (it was a bit bloody, and I wouldn't watch it again, but the plot structure was so amazingly put together, I finished it and I was like, wow. )

Then again, when I'm talking best, I'm not talking favorite, or what made me laugh, I'm talking amazing plot/story structure/character development. All three of these meet those standards.

hey yall although am new here i believe the best anime of all time is Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X. I mean this anime has it all. Battousai the legendary man-slayer after so many years of living a life with a sword that kills has become a wanderer with a sword to protect. He finds himself at a doujo which is managed by the beautiful Miss Kaoru (hope i spelt that right ) and start a new life though past demons are still out for him. Then you have the kenshin gang as i call them...Hahiko, Sanoke(just love him by the way), the lady doctor who i belive is Megumi though correct me if am wrong. And not forgetting Gramps and the two little darlings girls. Basically this anime gives you history, the plot is amazing and so is the action even more so. Also we have love, family/friendship and humor cuz Kenshin can be so hilarious at times. so all in all its my best. Though my runner ups are Naruto, Kaichou Wa Maidsams and a old fave Yu Yu Hakusho.

I usually try to distinguish between "best" and "favorite," but that doesn't always happen :x

For me, the best anime would have to be Fullmetal Alchemist (no movies). One, because it's a fantastic series, but also because it's rare for me to feel like the anime did the story more justice than the manga. I mean, where else can you get a series that turned a four panel omake into an entire episode that wasn't made of filler goo?

I... tend to not watch shoujo anime, , so I am probably more in tune with the Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Outlaw Star, etc line of awesomeness. Code Geass is also one that I randomly obsess over and would recommend.
HOWEVER. My favorite anime of all time is still Rurouni Kenshin de gozaru yo.
