you can use other programs... but Photoshop will eb your best bet. since it contains action tool and batching, which makes editing life soooo much easier

NaeRi

So it can be gimp? i'm usin it in place of photoshop cuz i just cant afford it :) well its rather expensive :) i've read the tutorials about action tool and batching and it was like O.o what is it?? so complicated... but with gimp i cant use that anyway, can i?

i dont think gimp can batch.

We can provide you a not-so-legal version of photoshop  XD (thats what i use) <3 I think photoshop works so much better since you can batch with that.

for photoshop CS download, its in our forum, under Staff Corner.

NaeRi

does it look different from gimp? cuz im already used to it and i dont know if i'll adapt quickly... :)

we wont force you to use photoshop =) i think some of our editors use gimp too.

But its just that Gimp doesnt have all the functions needed. (at least i dont think so... you can try finding it...)

Like filters: Topaz Denoise

And they dont have the the Action/batching tool, which like cuts your cleaning time almost in half, since it allows you to replay repetitive tasks automatically.

So i would say photoshop is better and faster for cleaning XD~ But its really up to you. (but you wouldnt be able to use the topaz denoise filter...which could turn out to be a problem for some projects.  But some projects dont need it either...=P)

NaeRi

Well, since I have both now, I'll check out these whole filters batchings etc ;P

You can use GREYCstoration (or the update for it, G'MIC, but I haven't tried that one yet) instead of Topaz for denoising. You can find it with Google (too lazy too find a link :dignose: )

There's a simple batch plugin, "David's Batch Processor" for GIMP, (Filters > Batch >Batch Processor). You can do several things with it, but the only ones I find useful for scanlating is the Rename tab, where you can add prefixes and postfixes to names and convert them into grey (don't forget turn the output format into XCF, which can be done under the Output tab). The other seemingly useful options (Resize & Sharpen) work in just the wrong way... (with resizing you can only keep the aspect ratio when resizing relatively...)

I'm not too sure if this batch plugin is standard, a recent update or an extra from an other plugin I once added. (after a quick Google search: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~hodsond/dbp.html)

More complex batching and actions are possible... but you have to learn Python-fu, Script-fu or pearl (both programming/scripting languages) for that. I intend to learn pearl after I finish scanlating Divine Melody, there's a book about it lying here somewhere... (gotta love having a geeky-family XD) If I ever master it, I can write scripts for different scanlation processes and share them.

I came, I saw, I stuck around.
