Private Schools....anyone?

Is anyone going to a private school or wants to go to a private school?

Really? I'm about to start at a Private Sixth Form after going to a Grammar School for Secondary School 

The people I met on Induction Day seemed pretty nice. :) BUT THERE IS SO MUCH WORK TO BE DONE! What kind of a place assigns:

1) A Streetcar Named Desire
2) The Glass Menagerie
3) The Great Gatsby
4) Disgrace
5) At least one book by Nadine Gordimer
6) The Memoirs of Tennessee Williams
7) Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda
And Head Start Guides to Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology AS COMPULSORY SUMMER READING?! 

What's so bad about it  ? I NEED TO BE PREPARED YO'!!

At Grammar Schools, everyone's pretty posh and middle class anyway, but Private Schools are one step above that :') So I expected everyone to be snobby but everyone was lovely.   

It's just like any school but with better facilities and higher paid, sometimes more highly qualified teachers. :)

Only some private schools are like that.   
When i visited some private schools for some intro like thingy ( basically looking around with people staring at you like some alien ), the girl who guided me seemed kinda faking nice to me.  ...and I KNEW she was a snotty brat.   *sigh*

I guess there are fake people at all schools though, right? :') Some of my own friends at my school are so fake to people they don't like it's hilarious :') EVERYBODY hates the Tango-Parade -_- Whoever told people that Oompa-Loompa was the in shade this season needs shooting.

You don't need to go to a private school for days filled with stress!

I went to a public school and it was just shocking. I guess the teachers ability thing is true though, I know there were a whole bunch of teachers there that really made me wonder why the hell they'd chosen that career path.
I can't imagine the thought of becoming a teacher is that glamorous as it is; let alone when you're teaching a bunch of teenagers.

Anyway, besides the work and teachers, public school was pretty fun - at least, knowing some of the people that I did.

Plus here I would never have gone to a private school because they were all-boys or all-girls. And when two of those school eventually mingled, most all the boys were dweebs or jerks that had no idea how to act around females [from what I saw and heard anyway].

With regards to the whole guy thing- at the College I'm starting at, there are 70 people in my year and 60 in the year above. So, 130 people in the entire school...

The grand total of guys is TEN.
Six in my year, four in the year above.

And although I will admit, all of the ones I met on Induction Day were gorgeous (EXCEPT FOR THE ONE WITH A WAFRO... WTF?!)... I'm going there from a school where, in my year group alone, there were 52 guys and 49 girls- and Secondary Schools have 5 years, plus two for Sixth Form and it was on average 50 guys and 50 girls to a year.

Secondary School is up to 16.
College (a.k.a. Sixth Form) is from 16-18.
University is 18+.

LMAO! The people I spoke to were so BUMMED about the lack of guys. I was like "Erm... yeah whatever. At least the ones we have are hot. And if it's really THAT MUCH of an issue... there are three boys only colleges right round the corner..." :L

Yeah man! And I'm going to  Private School in CAMBRIDGE. The chance of them being absolutely loaded is pretty much guaranteed :')

Sounds like Junior High and Senior High to me.

I know a few friends that went to private school... Kind of funny how that alone is more expensive compared to University ;x. Teachers are more school subjective though. I'd imagine private school has a higher chance to have more qualified teachers, but my High School teachers were really good.

Though it'd be interesting to see the atmosphere difference at private... I mean reading all these manga about all-girl/all-boy schools... But alas that will never happen unless I somehow become a private school teacher.

Yeah, it's the equivalent, except you work towards a completely different qualification in those two years. I HATE A-LEVELS ALREADY AND I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED THEM 

I went to a Government funded Grammar School for Secondary School and a normal state Primary School before that. :) So I'll be sure to let you know the difference. :') With teachers, they almost HAVE to be good at Private Schools since they're paid so much more. At Government funded Schools, it's more dependent on luck I guess. 

The money is ridiculous, but it pays off in the end. Like, 50% of the people who go to the College I'm going to go on to study at Oxford or Cambridge for University.  They know how to prepare you for it better.

Maybe my school was special. Because we had people destroying our exams, I think the top 10-15 marks in our math class were at 95%+ along with Chemistry and Physics (after factoring in standardized exams).

Though... With regards to getting into good schools, lots of those private schools have connections so there's a little more leeway. There's also a population skew, because I'd assume a majority of private school students are looking to enter a University whereas this is not the case at public schools. Not to say they aren't smart (the ones who get in), but private school is already a weed out, since you have to take their tests to be accepted. Also, many private students are more financially secure compared to regular students so given an offer, they can accept it. I know in the case here, people at my school gave up offerings to go to good Universities (Yale, Brown etc) because they had full scholarship acceptance to some of the Universities here instead.

But the case is a little different here, because most of the really renowned schools are outside Canada, so even if you get in, you'll be considered a foreign student and... I could only imagine how much it would cost to be a foreign student at a famous University ;/

Though, I think you are confusing the have to be good part. Private schools teachers are likely to have better credentials and levels of education but high qualifications do not always mean they can teach well (Wishes I could learn from my profs!). Though I guess that's the illusion, because the things they teach you before University are really structured. Like teaching you to do well on the standardized exams, it was like that here too D;...

Though your private school does sound awesome regardless. 50% entrance, like 50 people getting accepted. I didn't even apply outside of Canada because foreign student fees would have tore me apart.

Funny though, when you say this A-LEVEL thing I just keep thinking of Naruto mission rankings xD...

At the risk of sounding incredibly shallow and not really caring that I do, I don't care if a guy has no money, as long as he's hot HOT HOT!

The atmosphere in my school is pretty relaxed, though everyone is uber smart, creative, and rich. Also very driven.
I'm sure if you went for a bigger, better, larger, more competitive school, it would be like uni. Thousands of students,
a few good teachers, and bleh, you're on your own. Huzzah! 
Britian is weird. But private schools often have a higher chance for ivy league schools here in America. (not 50%, more like 30%,
and scholarships are fewer)

There's that kind of dull prestige. I feel so useles... school's not hard, but at the same time, it is.

Still, I'd even settle for a cute guy. After all, really hot guys usually have a bunch of girls after them, and a swelled head because they just KNOW they're that hot.

Naruto is something I can never decide if I like.
I mean, I really like the way all the characters are given distinct (if useless) personalities so they can be used in AU fanfiction as older generation easily (admitting to my other internet workings a little there  ) but apparently the manga moves SO SLOWLY and about 3/4 of it is just filler.

Yeah seriously. Why is Naruto being discussed in a Private Schools topic? I have never been to a school with an anime club. A lot of people wanted to do anime/ manga in art in year 10 (I didn't do GCSE Art, but about 60 of the 90 in my year did) and the art teacher was like "I WILL NOT ACCEPT CARTOON PORN!"

i went to one in china~(Shanghai High School International Division*anybody know it?

well, personally, i think they're better than public schools...
you get 10 min. breaks, 1hr+ lunch break (we always play basket ball during lunch break)

and there's lots of shops inside the campus(we go there and get sushi for lunch~

there's not alot of hw, and the campus is reaally big, like a university (even though it's supposed to be a highschool, somehow the international division has all twelve grades...)

i used to believe that hongkong was a teensie weensie little island (cause i heard somewhere that it's a small island)...and so this time when i came to shenzhen, i asked my grandparents 'what are those mountains in the distant?'(since they live by the sea). and when they said 'oh, those are the mountains of hongkong', my face was like OMG, so hongkong was that big?

and in truth, hongkong is actually 'bout the same size as shenzhen (well, now shenzhen is getting bigger and bigger...)

I used to go to a Private high school when I was living in Montreal. I had to wear uniform >< but it wasn't that bad since it saved me time dressing up in the morning when I over sleep. Private school...well I didn't really feel anything different lol. But now I am attending a public school in Toronto. I don't need to wear uniforms now. Besides not all public school are bad, mine is one of the top public high school in Ontario =]
