Found this on my HD.  It's old, but still a treat if you like Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII.

Mhm. I don't care about falling in love or be in love.

Actually, that's probably the best state to be in.  Don't look for it, let it find you.  /cheese

sounds like a pretty instresting anime... (the one you described)

What is Voltron like?

Hard to say.  I suppose it's like the original Speed Racer, only in outer space.  It's got a now-vintage art style, unabashedly cheesy dialogue and voice overs, and comical villains.  My favorite part was when the lion ships would join together to make VOLTRON!

At some point in my childhood, Voltron.  I was in love with Lance (see avatar).  Then in high school it was Sailor Moon on USA Network.  In college, it was Vampire Hunter D and Ninja Scroll.  Those last two put me off of anime until recently, when I picked up Fruits Basket on Netflix.

For the longest time, I disliked anime-style cartoons and I think it was due to this weird anime movie I watched as a youngster that had a flute-playing guy turning people into giant jigsaw puzzle pieces for his master.  Apparently, this master (who was basically a creepy dumpling, I think) was building a tower/city with the pieces?  Anyway, if I remember correctly, the hero was a young boy whose parents had just become jiggy wit' it.  With his earnest cuteness, he managed to convince the flutist to turn on his master and the grand finale was everyone turning back into themselves.  Can't remember the name for the life of me, which is why I'm claiming Voltron as my first.

Lots of good words. Some words I like:

lackadaisical - meaning lazy/very lazy
upchuck - means to vomit, but the word just sounds funny to me
vex

Once in grade school, a buddy of mine decided to look up synonyms for "vomit".  One of them—swear to God—was "holler New York".

So far I'm really loving this manga! Is anybody else secretly hoping she ends up with the president?

Torn, really.  Every time she's with someone other than Kandagawa, I think, "Go for him, Mie!"  But then Kandagawa gets all soft around her (usually after yelling) and then I think, "Don't give up yet, Mie!"

Now, is it just me, or did it go from being "Bun Bun Phrase" in chapter 8 to "Buzz Phrase" in 9?  Which is it?

xD LOL WE USE SHENANIGANS STILL!

and "YOU TURKEYS!" (:  my dean would yell at the speds...

You know, "shenanigans" makes me think there's a family of Irish ne'er-do-wells hanging somewhere close.  "Hey, look.  It's those Shenanigans again, up to no good as usual.  Their poor, poor mother..."

You guys are all so eloquent =/

Hmm love. I have a partner of 3 years and we have already mapped out the next 30 years of financial expenditure (mortgage #1, stupid wedding in two countries, cranky kids and their extorbitant school fees, mortgage #2). We have even discussed the future division of labour within the household and expectations for cohabitation.

At this point you're probably thinking: Whuuuuuut... sounds like a contract.

Well, it is--a social contract between partners. We're willingly entering into this contract because we both assume that this nebulous concept of "love" exists, and that it exists between us.

For him, love is spending most of his money on me, and spending Friday nights at my house instead of out drinking with his friends. It is about changing his lifestyle (start exercising) and diet (no more going to his beloved McDonalds) so that I don't worry about his health. It's about meeting my family and going to meals with them even though he feels really uncomfortable at those outings. And it's about calling me once in a while, even though he really hates talking on the phone.

For me, love is thinking about him first thing when I wake up, last thing before I sleep. It is about buying his favourite cheese and drinks when I'm at the supermarket, and spending 3 hours cooking shepherd's pie for him. It's letting him go out with his friends and game into the night. It's giving him a foot rub after he's had a long day at work. It's about sitting through movie episodes that he loves but I hate. It's also about being willing to sacrifice a couple of new dresses so that I can get him new jeans instead.

And for both of us, love is about making sure we make those incremental changes now so that when the time comes, we slip into a comfortable and easy life together, and lead the loving life we want to, instead of letting everything crash in all at once and (and losing the person who matters most to us).

What is your love like?

Eloquent?  I almost said, "Love is him getting to fart in bed and you choosing to stay with him anyway.  Are you sure you still want it?" but figured it might leave a scar.

But yes, the good kind of love definitely requires sacrifice of some sort—on both sides, ideally.  Very nicely and lyrically-in-a-way-that-makes-me-think-you-write-in-your-spare-time put, Ruraine.

Hmmm I used to work on Galism, but these days I don't have the time to translate from scratch any more, so I just double check new translations for whatever series Lily summons me to. That, or do SFX for random series like Ojousama wa Oyomesama and Ryuu no Hanawazurai. I might return to full-time translating in November though =D maybe then.

And yes... I'm waiting desperately until I can afford the 20% downpayment on an apartment, and then the blissful life of paying your own mortgage (INSTEAD of renting and paying someone else's mortgage) begins <3

I know.  I hated renting, especially around tax time.  I also really love doing home improvements and it chafed to have my hands tied in that area as a renter.

I say, you remind me of someone I used to know.  You weren't "jabbberwocky" or "invocations" in another life, were you?

Welcome in!

I'm Ruraine, occasional CN-EN translator (and emergency JP-EN/SFX translator for Lily). Maybe we'll work together on a project someday?

Also, in terms of personal information, I have just graduated with a Commerce and an Arts degree, regrettably don't have a mortgage yet, have finally secured respectable employment for next year, and currently moonlight as a sessional tutor for one class of college kids. Don't worry, you're probably only around my age =/

Shout to icewing: WHAT FACEBOOK PAGE?? T_T nobody tells me these things...

Hi, Ruraine!  A pleasure to meet you.  I'm still betting I'm quite older if you just graduated, but my immaturity will probably make up the difference.

When I signed on, it was to work on Men's Kou, Galism and Ai wo Chodai in some capacity.  Are you on any of those teams?

Congrats on the respectable employment!  And I like how you said "regrettably" about not having a mortgage.  It's funny how you reach a certain age and are almost desperate to be saddled with those adulthood milestones like houses and retirement funds.

Manga / Re: Which one started it all?
August 28, 2011, 21:30
I've read comic books since I was in high school, but didn't start reading mangas until last year, the first one being Fruits Basket.  What prompted the foray into manga was the abrupt, near-crappy ending of the FB anime.  Imagine my relief at finding the manga online.  After that, there was no turning back.

The Young Girls of Rochefort  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Young_Girls_of_Rochefort

Don't get me wrong; I like musicals.  But this one...meh.  The singing wasn't that good, and despite Gene Kelly's slumming, the dancing wasn't either.  Plus, it had one of those open-ended endings, which makes me uncomfortable because I usually feel like I'm letting the director down.  Leaving things to my imagination doesn't always guarantee a happy—or even reasonable—ending.

That scene from Les Misérables:

Théndardier: "Who is this hussy?"
Lowlife 2: "It's your brat Eponine.  Don't you know your own kid?  Why's she 'anging about you?"
Théndardier: "Eponine, get on home.  You're not needed in this; we're enough 'ere without you..."
Eponine: "I know this house.  I tell you, there's nothing here for you.  Just an old man and his girl...they live ordinary lives."

I rather like the term "willy-nilly".  Contrary to appearance, it does not refer to a specifically male part going soft, but is a synonym for "haphazardly".

I used to like "shenanigans" until the hipsters found it and started "calling" it willy-nilly.  Damn them.

And "doofus" is always good for when my go-to insult "idiot" is a little too harsh.

The important thing is to remember that love doesn't stick to a recipe.  There aren't any set ingredients (other than two people, and that's...debatable) or steps or cooking times to insure a tasty baked item.  You basically have to wing it—and while it can be scary not having a guide, it also means you get to make your own rules.

Welcome, welcome! ^_^  I also joined because of a similar weakness for recruitment pages and leecher guilt... Glad to have you here.

Thanks for the welcome, Darselo!

You know, the term "leecher" just ain't flattering at all, is it?  Who wants to be such an ugly word?  Plus, I think I was in the mood for community again.

WELCOME TO TRANSCENDENCE!  *skip

I'm Icey  :hi:

have fun in the forums...and join our facebook! :D
http://www.facebook.com/groups/163500641929/

Thank you so much, Icey!

FYI to all:  I will probably forgo the kind invite to join Transcendence's Facebook because of two reasons: 1) I'm rarely on Facebook and it usually hurts my eyes when I am (insert cataracts/age joke here), and 2) I have a somewhat respectable front there and my so-called "friends" might find a manga association peculiar and questionable from a woman my age.  Not that I don't have other peculiar and questionable hobbies, mind you, I just don't Facebook them either.

JEEZ, Square Enix's graphics are amazing~

Hahaha. Either way, you're certainly welcome on the team. :) (and since you've been on a team before, you have more experience -- a definite plus!)

Thanks for the welcome, Ryu!  One day, we shall have a discussion about your favorite FF game.

Haha, welcome to the community, Miller!  :goodjob:
(yeah, I'm one of the newer members. XD)
Thanks for helping us out~ And congrats, you're not a leecher anymore!
:=X:

Good luck with your mortgage! Though it sounds like you're fine since you have a solid job. :)
I also prefer RPGs over stuff like Halo. What's your favorite video game?

And we appreciate old school-ness (or at least I do). Diversity is fun~

Hmm, favorite video game?  I'm not sure—maybe Suikoden III or Valkyria Chronicles?  I like a good blend of strategy and RPG.  My favorite franchises, though, are Final Fantasy, Katamari Damacy, Harvest Moon, Pikmin and Rock Band.  I'd really like Dungeon Defenders to be released, but the wankers keep pushing it back.

I stopped being a leecher several months ago when I joined another scanlation group.  Sorry to say, but Transcendence isn't my, um, first time.  The guilt was just as overwhelming though!

Hello, all, I'm Miller.  I'll probably be a variety of things around here at some time or another—proofreader, cleaner, typesetter, QCer (NEVER translator)—but for now I'm trying to proofread Galism.  I joined because recruitment pages are apparently like kryptonite to me: they're powerful; they make me feel weak and somewhat guilty.  I start to question my role as a human being with a firm grasp on English grammar and a legitimate copy of Photohop on my computer.  So here I am, newest member!  Guilt assuaged?  Check.

A few random facts about me: I graduated from college with two art degrees.  I have a mortgage.  I'm thankfully and gainfully employed, which helps the previous fact immensely.  I don't read comic books nearly as much as I used to, but when I do I'm an X-Men and Fables girl.  I do play video games occasionally, and am partial to RPGs and things involving strategy more than shmupping.

Also, I'm probably older than 99% of you.  For that reason (and laziness), you probably won't see very many emoticons in my post.  Old School, Go!

(Disclaimer: I'm not mocking anyone, I just have a really dry personality.  I swear, I'm nice-ish.)
