Forum Games / Re: Make an Award...
January 09, 2014, 18:33
I'm going to post my earlier award for you! I think it's a good award, and it's still right! :=X:

I think part of the problem with the lack of chattiness and non-staff forum participation is a more general shift away from forums.

People are reading manga on MangaFox and other reader/aggregators instead of coming to the websites to download and read new chapters. Facebook and sites that don't need a separate login are much easier for people to chat on than the forum where you need to sign up and log in (and where our forum emails aren't even reaching a number of forum members).

People might chat on Skype, but some people don't feel as comfortable doing voice chatting, and those messages (and the ones on the Chatbox) aren't reflected on the forum, so someone who comes by doesn't see many updates here. Also, it's not obvious how people can participate in Skype conversations to begin with.

I think Iteza had already made a post in the announcements board soliciting this sort of information, so can you PM her withy your feelings?

Thanks!

Homework / Re: Introductions~ how to start it?

Soo, by the introduction, you don't mean the introduction to the thesis, so much as the introduction of the book? I'm confused by what you mean by "chapters"

You're writing an introduction and other people are writing the other parts of the paper? Are you writing all of the thesis or just a part of it? I'm confused...

If you're writing the introduction and others are writing the rest, you really need to see the rest of what's written before you can write the introduction, since the introduction should be a basic summary of what is coming up in the rest of the paper. If you're writing the whole paper, you just need to write a summary of what the problem is (inventory database), and how your paper is going to explain how to solve it.

That's part of the challenge of making a good presentation. Pick out the important parts, summarize other parts, get just the necessary information. A poster/powerpoint shouldn't be paragraphs, it should be bullet points.

Getting the right depth and level of information is an important skill, but it can be very difficult. How would you explain how a kid learns to read to a person who knows nothing about child development and only has 10 minutes?

Announcements / Re: New Emoticons!

Also new! You should be able to have posts and PMs with 日本語, 中文, or 한국말!

If you run into somewhere that it's still turning into ???s just let me know and I'll try to figure out how to fix it.

Note: Old things that were ??? won't turn back into Japanese/Chinese/Korean/etc, sorry! They're ??? forever.

Edit: The user tags aren't as pretty.

It's true. I made them super generic for the sake of being smaller.

I tend to just open the chatbox separately when I'm interested in using it, since it makes my computer chug a little bit, and that way I don't have it open in like a million windows. :=X:

Announcements / New Emoticons!
November 05, 2013, 14:37
I decided to do something silly, and added a few more onionhead emoticons!

There are three new ones on the posting page:
:whaat: :fliptable: :cheer:

And five new ones in the popup!
:teardrop: :turnstone: :ghost: :birddot: :whirlpool:

Enjoy!

I also made it so that you guys can use my secret theme. It doesn't show the chat box and the message box, and it is purple! (And a little bit plain.) You can try it out if you want, or stay with the old style!

Questions / Re: Jobs?
May 21, 2013, 12:24
We're tight on staff right now, but we actually have enough proofreaders and we don't have anyone available to train QCers, so...

If you could work on cleaning again, though, that would really be great, as we could really use some extra cleaners.

Questions / Re: Need Help!
May 20, 2013, 19:46
We don't really have a need for a regular colorist, so we don't really tend to recruit for it, and it is more something that we'd have an existing staff member do in addition to her regular job.
#12
Thanks for the cleans you offered, Tinnako! :goodjob:

We'll have to look over them, and we actually already have through chapter 20 cleaned. I think a bunch of us around here have hit onto a busy time so we're a little swamped with real life work and things have slowed down a little, but hopefully we'll be getting back up to speed soon!

I would suggest PMing Candyness and asking her about helping out with typesetting for transcendence. It seems like you have some experience, so if you could send her a couple links to past chapters that you've done typesetting work for, we could maybe set you as Reserve staff and you could post to our staff job board whenever you're free for a couple chapters. We usually have work for a typesetter or two!

Announcements / Staff Project Poll
January 23, 2013, 05:05
I've set up a super-quick poll I want the staff to take.

Here's the link to the thread in the staff forum: http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=4097.0

If you aren't staff and you'd like to respond to the poll, just give me a week and I'll let you all answer it, too.

Oh man, I've wanted to go to Shirakawa-go but never made it out there. :'( It's a lot harder to get to when you're starting out in Kyushu.

And now I'm even further away. :donwan:

Where are you living in Japan, Sweeny? Maybe somewhere around Tokyo, since you have been having snow lately? But I guess other places in Japan have been getting snow, too. :=X:

Also yay for more old peeps! :goodjob:

Questions / Re: NtoH
January 10, 2013, 04:08
I think that whoever was taking care of it turned somewhat MIA, and now since nobody was in charge and it was a relatively low-priority project it got somewhat forgotten about. The last release was almost a year ago. :haix:

Do you think it would be okay to put one of our new PRs onto? We have a couple in training who seem to be pretty good, and I'd be okay with assigning one of them to work on it. We also have a PR who is an active PR with some other groups but complains that she isn't getting enough work, so I could give it to her as well.

We would probably need to find new staff for all of the rest of the positions as well, but maybe we could figure that out when we get to it?

Anime / Re: Good clean anime?
January 03, 2013, 10:36
If people haven't seen Azumanga Daioh, it is a very light and silly anime that has zero objectionable content as far as I remember. It gets a tiny bit weird sometimes, but only in a silly way.

It's one of my favorites!

Nichijou has a similar sort of feel to it, and I can't remember anything violent or inappropriate in it, although it does get weirder than Azumanga.

You want people to learn editing, Candyness?

I hope you're willing to do all of the training then! :=D:

Welcome Kaiaka! Apparently you haven't been given a trial PR chapter! I'll find you one ASAP!

Nice to meet you, Haru!

Sorry about the registration troubles. :crywithno:

Give me a few days and I'll try to find a chapter for you to do as a trial TL chapter. I promise they'll be easier than the TL test!

Due to various and sundry issues with the forum email system, PM and notification emails may be going into your spam folders starting this morning. :vomit:

Please check your spam folder for PMs and then mark them as not spam and add the address to your contacts so that you continue getting all of your wonderful notifications! :goodjob:

I'm pretty sure the notification emails aren't working right now, so even if you get a new PM there won't be any email. :noway:

Hi everyone!  :hi:

If you haven't heard of My Anime List, it's a pretty nice website for keeping track of the anime/manga you're watching/reading, and getting recommendations and such.

I'd like to know what everyone else has enjoyed, so if you have an account I think it would be great if we could share them and see what everyone's into!  :goodjob: If you don't have one, maybe you could make one!

Here's my profile. I'm excited to see yours!

Hey everyone, I'm Kuri/Christina.

I'm going to be working as a Japanese translator and I'm looking forward to it!

I like weird silly manga, a mix of the standard shoujo and some of the crazier shounen. I live in Switzerland now and I am feeling like I'm going to be missing the kotatsu I had in Japan!
