O: You're going to be in Canada! I live in Canada too, but on the west side... xD Make sure you have boots ^^ I don't think winter in Eastern Canada is too chilly, but they do seem to get a lot of snow. So during spring, it can get really mushy and gross to walk in :/ If you're going to be in Ontario, might as well check out Niagara falls xD And if you're going to Quebec, you have to visit Quebec City! It's a beautiful town with old European style architecture that has beautiful stores and murales. Don't forget to try out Quebec food such poutine and maple sugar candy! There's also a lot of museums that you could check out if you're interested :D In May, there's a huuge tulip festival in Ottawa that attracts a lot of tourist and it looks really pretty ^^

And culture wise, well... almost everyone loves hockey and Tim Hortons xD And be sure to say thank you often~ (yeah it's a stereotype that's kinda true... A lot of my non-Canadian friends tell me how they started saying 'thank you' way more often compared to back home. Of course there's also the rude people too...). Also, when eating in a restaurant, we usually tip around at least 10-15%.

That's all I can think of for now... I only briefly visited Eastern Canada when I was younger. I hope you have a great stay here! :D

First Black Bird is coming to an end, and now Vampire Knight! http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=38111&page=1#post579129
I really hope Yuki ends up with Zero  :=X: Kaname isn't bad either xD
But she better end up with someone at least. If the ending is 'ambiguous' and we're left to guess who she ends up with, I'll be so dissatisfied =.=

Congrats on the position Zephy and Kuri! When I saw the projects were listed in alphabetical order I was thinking "WOOOO!!!" xD I look forward to seeing the plans you guys have in stored for Transcendence. Feel free to PM me if you guys ever need something!

Yes we're still actively working on Black Bird. Due to some circumstances and problems we had recently, it was decided that Black Bird would be a private board and only those who are working on Black Bird will be able to see it. That's why there's a Black Bird Staff category.

Ehh but our extra 2 and their extra 2 is different... I compared them and the translation and typesetting are very different... maybe they changed it? o.o

Gahhh is it just me, or is Mangahere and Mangafox replacing all our BB with DF's version? Our ch.35 was released first, and yet both of them have DF's version... Whyyy? Our quality is so much better T-T  Are they trying to steal our readers too? :omg:

}:( we need a PR...right?

hm...
Yeah and we need more translators, and editors, and QCers... More of everything!  :'(

QuoteThat pisses me off. Can't stand awful quality on scans and stealing.

Sent in what I think is a terrible form for PRing (don't know what to put since zip exp.) yesterday  :swt:

How many times has this stealing thing happened before?   ???   -Was not aware this happens-

Before, we had incidents where Transcendence and another scanlation group decided to pick up a project at the same time which caused some clashes. But this is the first time a group has fully taken on a project that we've been actively working on :(
#15
Woww they stole almost all their projects. D< And I think after stealing one of them, the scanlation team sped released the series and Dragonfly scans slowed down their release on that series. WE WILL NOT LOSE BB! Speed release gogogogogo!
They also released 32... T_T
#16
Another war :blur: But we can't lose BB! We've started on it since volume 2! Must...speed...release...
If you need any help Iteza, or you need to recruit any editors for BB, just let me know xD

Questions / Re: Editor/Cleaner/Typesetter
October 09, 2011, 00:56
I know what you mean... It takes me a while before I get in the mood to study (if I ever feel like studying in the first place >.<)
Yeah no problem! I'll PM you a link with some practice pages for you to try out. Would you prefer to have some random ones or would you like the actual editing/training package?

Questions / Re: Editor/Cleaner/Typesetter
October 09, 2011, 00:40
We can never have enough editors! The more the better~
Ahh yes exams T_T  Training actually takes a few weeks because sometimes it might take a week for staff to reply, and then another week for the trainee to reply back, etc. So on average, training takes about a month or so. It depends on what you're training for, how quickly you learn, how quick the replies are, etc.

So if you're interested, please take the test and try out ^^ What we're mainly looking for is not skill, but dedication. We want people who are willing to learn and willing to stick around and edit chapters once they're done with their training :D If you have dedication, then I believe you will be a great addition to the team~ I hope you'll try the editing test after your exams are done xD Good luck on your exams!

Questions / Re: typesetting test - saving
October 05, 2011, 22:34
We don't save it in 32 color bit (only if there are too many shades of gray). We usually save it in 16. Did you follow the saving instructions: http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=1915.0 and save it as 'Save For Web & Devices'? Let me know if this is what you're talking about xD

When you save the images as .png, all the layers will automatically flatten and it's supposed to be like that. That's why you also send us the .psd so that we can see all the layers :D I hope this is what you were talking about. xD

Staff Introductions / Re: Love and Flowers!
September 27, 2011, 21:50
But, but, I like you the way you are

You're just upfront about things and unafraid to speak your mind xD Sure some people misunderstand and take you too seriously, but I know you never meant to intentionally hurt anyone (99% of the time...). And what I like best about you is your ability to speak what you think all the time with no fear :3
To those who think she's "scary" or "mean", she isn't really. She's really funny and humorous, and loveable, and funny, and sarcastic, and funny (did I say funny enough times?). So she swears? Don't we all? Some just do more so than others (and she does stop swearing if you ask her to). She bashes others? I'm pretty sure we all gossip about others at some point in our lives, or think evil thoughts about others at least. Tolerance and Happiness? I don't see what's wrong there... Bossiness? Well, things wouldn't work well if everyone just waited around with no one taking the initiative to do something.
And I can honestly say that one big reason why I stayed with Transcendence for this past year was because of Lily. So I hope she never ever changes because then the world would explode from extreme change Lily wouldn't be Lily without all these awesome qualities <33 Hmm... I wonder if this was too cheesy? o.O Oh well xD

Lifestyle / Re: Singing Higher
May 11, 2011, 21:13
Ohh I'm a soprano so maybe I can be of some help xD
Here are some tips/exercises:

-Do you know how to use your "head voice" instead of your "chest voice"? People who sing in a lower register tend to use their "chest voice" more often and people who sing higher are able to switch to their "head voice" better. So if you know how, use your head voice to reach the higher notes because it won't strain your voice box as much. It's kinda difficult to explain the difference between chest and head voice, so I hope you know what I'm saying >.<

***How you pronounce the vowels really makes a difference. If you sing a vowel like "la", where your mouth stretches to the side is much harder. If you use the long vowel so your mouth is more circular and you drop your jaws, it will make it much easier. Try singing something like "aw/oh" or think stereotypical opera vowels/sounds. Make sure the jaws are dropped!

-You should probably take it step by step to that F. So go as high as you can (the C above middle C in your case) and start humming up by semi-tones rather than whole tones. You can hum much higher than you can sing aloud and it'll help warm up your voice. You'll probably be able to sing an F by humming.

-Another good exercise is singing arpeggios of a chord and going step by step by semitones (so a C chord arpeggio, then a D flat chord arpeggio, D chord, etc) and see if you can get up to or past that F.

-An important thing is to not be intimidated by high notes~ Most people when they see the high notes they freak out. But it might help if you think "down" while singing up the scale. Make sure you use lot of air from the diaphragm for support.

-Make sure your voice is always warmed up! If not, your vocals won't be able to handle it. So don't try to sing too high without warming up before hand.

-And of course, practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect :3

Haha...that was a lot to read...but I hope some of it helps xD

Lounge / Re: Osama Bin Laden killed
May 04, 2011, 21:32
QuoteI ask this. Is it not obvious who's more at fault here? Is it not more than obvious that this war was never about hunting down a terrorist (and really, who starts three wars over something like that), but for the sole purpose of profiting? Yes it is. Everyone knows that, but things still continue the way they have been.
Now what? Osama is dead, so what excuse will they give in order to continue with the occupation? I am thinking of half a dozen and I am sure they have ten times the amount.

That's not exactly true. Several people in the States (I think), saw Osama bin Laden as a symbol of terrorism. Killing him meant not only killing the most wanted terrorist, but also destroying terrorism as well. Of course after Osama's capture, Americans are more afraid that there will be more attacks against them due to revenge. But as the States have shown, if anyone dares to threaten their national security, they will hunt them down. The glorification of Osama's death gives the people a sense of strength, that America has the power to do anything they want.

Of course, I completely agree that the USA focusing so much on the military and war is meaningless (this goes for any country really). 50 years from now, they will think, "Wow, what we did back then was really stupid and sad, why did we do it?"

It's like the Japanese internment camps that took place in North America nearly 70 years ago. It was the same then during World War II, people only cared about their own security at the expense of others. Even though the Japanese who lived in the States or Canada were legal citizens, they were viewed as a threat in the public eye, despite the fact that they have never done any harm and posed no threat.

Now is no different. People only care about their own safety and the only way to feel comfort is through the abolition others, hence the death of Osama. Of course, that is merely one of the several public-approved reasons that are used to justify the useless wars. Until the people and the government stop seeing themselves as the good guys and realize that there are no good or bad guys in this world, the war goes on.

Anime / Re: Best Anime of All Time....
May 01, 2011, 13:26
Nodame Cantabile (season one)! Even though the artwork can be a bit...unbearable...the plot is good, there's a bajillion eccentric characters, and the music is great~ (Rachmaninoff piano concerto no.2 <3)

~Puella Magi Madoka Magica~ At first, it seems like the typical kiddy, girly anime that 10 year olds watch, but don't judge a book by it's cover! Once you keep watching it (past ep.2), it actually becomes really dark and bleak with a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

QuoteTo be honest I don't even think its the fault of scanlation. First of all its their own fault for not bringing in more variety of manga outside of Japan. They only stick to mainstream or manga that no one really pays attention to. Why couldn't they just arrange something with Japanese publishers to begin brining out more variety of manga like the ones scanlation does? It might sound selfish but I think its their own fault for not trying hard enough to get profit. I mean I would buy a manga in a store if I really liked the series even though I read it online. I like having hard copies anyway. BUT sadly the stores have nothing of what I like. They can't blame people for not buying things when there's nothing GOOD to buy. People can also buy online but more than half the series we want are untranslated. So buying them has no meaning. I mean why would you buy something that you can't read or understand unless you follow translated scans online while looking at your book at the same time.

That's just in my opinion...

Yeah I agree. It seems as though all of their new projects were really popular scanlated mangas... which forced caused scanlation groups to drop those projects. I think it was the scanlation groups which made manga popular in the Western countries more than the manga publishers. And a lot of people just sit down and read all the manga at a bookstore for free anyways so it's not only us who provide free manga reads. And I also think that the publishers didn't preserve enough of the Japanese culture in the manga, such as keeping the honorifics and translator notes (like puns and expressions) which loses the meanings. Some manga have them, but some don't. And I don't know if they tried hard enough to make profit, but I think they tried pretty hard keeping their licensed projects unavailable on the internet (the closing of OneManga, a bajillion mangas that can't be read on Manga Fox). Maybe they could've used some of that effort elsewhere...?
But I guess I'm just biased...

Lounge / Tokyopop to shut down O.O
April 15, 2011, 18:06
Tokyopop's headquarters in LA is going to shut down on May 31, 2011.

Animenewsnetwork: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-04-15/tokyopop-to-close-north-american-publishing-division
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyopop
Farewell letter from the founder: http://www.tokyopop.com/Stu/tp_article/3203033.html

Apparently the German branch is going to continue the international releases. But I'm not sure exactly what that means (as in which languages they are going to release manga in). Does that mean there's going to be a lot less translated English manga then? This is a huge shock that such a big manga publishing company could close down like that. I wonder if scanlation groups will be picking up projects licensed by Tokyopop.

It's kinda weird seeing this happen. Its still really hard to believe. I wonder what's gonna happen to the future of published manga in North America >.< What do you guys think?
