Been a while since I did anything arty. This is a contest submission for Sword Girls Online color me contest. This one took quite a while since the default resolution was huge haha. Still can't do glass/skin coloring that well but oh well, I think this probably a step up from my last colorings... >_>

If you want to see it in higher resolution...

And if you want EVEN higher you can download it from my deviant art. Thing is like 3402x4800 D;

Anime / Re: Sankarea
March 27, 2012, 00:13
I'm in the exact flip. Most anime that come out I've read the manga already. I can't really watch an anime of a manga I've read because knowing what happens just makes me lose interest.

Sankarea was kinda interesting, but read too much and lost interest/forgot about it already xD.

Anime / Re: Best/Worst Moment in Anime
March 27, 2012, 00:01
I will always remember the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight match in Naruto.

Not exactly sure if the entire series being bad qualifies for worst moment. World Destruction, Tytania and Dragon Crisis were all, in my opinion, terrible.

Last night I was apparently the random senior that goes to Lily's school and we talked about how the weather was so warm. So then we both decided to take off our clothes and have hot...

I can't remember what happened after that though, so I'll stop here.

To be honest, scanlation and manga are a double edged sword. Scanlation and the community has really made most of the popularity in manga over here, yet at the same time, it doesn't exactly promote sales of official volume releases because of how accessible manga is on web viewers. Accessibility is really the key thing, because with the internet and scanlation, a chapter that is just released in Japan within a couple hours can be brought to everywhere, whereas the turnover for the company might take a few months for that chapter to appear over here.

As to what Shiki said about 'variety' of manga, from a business sense it isn't feasible unless manga is actually more mainstream here in general. They don't have the finances to get the rights, publish and translate some niche titles in hopes that it could be popular here. That's why they choose the big titles like Naruto/Bleach/One Piece. While I would love for them to pick up some other titles I think are good, popularity really will determine what ultimately comes over here. Kind of true even in Japan, many times you'll start reading something and you'll think it's very good only to get some axed ending.

There is also the issue of 'quality' but I wouldn't really put that as the prominent issue. I would have to say accessibility speed of scanlation and online readers really will deter sales of official releases. No one wants to wait months to end on a cliff hanger to wait a few more months.

Lounge / Re: So...Who has Twitter?
June 15, 2011, 17:50
Twitter in reality has two major purposes. One is for reaching out to people certain information and the other is for you to go follow whoever you want to get specific information about.

That could be famous people, game developers political figures or whatever. It's basically like a facebook status or a mini one liner blog in a much more public sense.

Manga / Re: Favorite manga characters! >:]
January 08, 2011, 00:08
Male:
Munsu from Shin Angyo Onshi
Urahara from Bleach

Female:
Kazehana from Sekirei
C.C. from Code Geass
Murasaki from Kurenai

That is what I can think of off the top of my head... D; I can list more interesting characters that aren't exactly my favourite.

Yuno is pretty cool from Mirai Nikki xD.

http://kotaku.com/5712825/tokyo-says-sayonara-to-freedom-of-speech

Apparently some new bill maybe passed allowing some new regulations on anime/manga/games in Japan. This is mainly to do with censoring manga for virtual youth.

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/12/13/mangaka-my-publisher-has-banned-school-uniforms/

Even though the it isn't officially in the law, some (BL) mangaka are reporting that the publisher has banned School Uniforms along with potentially even using High School Students.\

NOTE: That Sankaku link has some ads that are 18+, enter at your own caution.

Anyways... Things look like they could get bad real quick :S

Some people would approach me to know my marks... and when i did badly than them, they would be very excited, "I Beat so-so". When i did better than them, they would be like... "Expected lah....confirm this grade one." I don't think it's because of asian families... I went to a average secondary school like that... hypocrites and backstabbers everywhere who would talk behind your back just because you did better than them or whatsoever. I got used to it.

Actually complaining how bad they do (when it's a good mark) doesn't bother me. It bothers me when they look down on others. I remember some of my friends would be like "How is it possible NOT to get a good mark, it is SO EASY" when talking about people that did significantly worst.

I just meant the Asian competitiveness is like anything below 90 is a fail attitude. Everyone always says how they will fail the exam (if it was below 90). In university our entire group would be telling each other "omg so going to fail" and of course everyone does fine. It is very natural to think about this kind of stuff~

And... of course there are tons of anime groups.
Quote from: charmy on October 13, 2010, 10:38
i'd just watch the anime to get the gist since it definitely takes less time to watch than to read. xD
I don't know, at most manga chapters are 1:1 (1 anime episode : 1 manga chapter) usually though, 1 anime episode is more than a chapter. And it is definitely faster for me to read a manga chapter as opposed to watching the anime ;/

Quote from: Furgeson on October 13, 2010, 15:39
D: I agree. Damn, I was so certain that Sharwie would like anime better...
Well, we are a scanlation group XD
I often don't have that much interest in anime is because I've already read a lot of the source material (manga based anime). I get bored when the anime follows a manga like glue, it's like reading the manga again, and I'd rather find some new stuff. That's why I typically like original series or ones based on novels, since it's like watching a fresh story.

There is also the other part where I'll look at an anime and remember the source material being something retarded.
#39
Though I don't ask people for help, back in my High School, everything below 95% was pretty much an Asian bomb. I didn't actually worry about marks until my entering year. But during our year, it was pretty damn competitive. I think early acceptance, which is what everyone aims for was at least 85+ and 90+ is some more competitive fields.

Then the other part is aiming for scholarships. Mostly they begin at 90+ for the first level and 95+ for the next level of scholarship. So, being worried is pretty normal. In fact a lot of my friends were like that ^^;

I didn't end up telling my marks because they'd be like "OMG YOU BEAT ME? YOU NEED TO TEACH ME NOW" which is something I didn't want to deal with. It's also that Asian parent mentality. Lots of Asian parents I know like to throw around marks that their kids get like it is some kind of contest :P...

Though you shouldn't let things like that bother you. Everyone has their own goals they are aiming for. The only thing you really need to keep in mind is if you are happy or not with your own mark.

Hmm... In typical manga > anime.

But when you have an actual good series (original anime or ones based on novels usually) they can be very good. Too bad many series, now in particular, do too many ecchi harem fanservice garbage. Very few solid anime with good story, characters or animation.

Anime / Re: FMA V.S. FMA:B
October 09, 2010, 13:30
I only watched the original FMA and have read the manga.

Original was okay, but I really didn't like a few of the things they changed. In particular the way Greed dies in FMA compared to the manga.

However at the same time, I didn't really like where the manga direction went either up to a certain point.

Plus FMA blows for killing off the only character I had interest for, Lust, SO EARLY ON. Stupid Mustang.

7zip can unpack many file types, including the ones used here (.rar/.zip).

However~ if you want to pack files, 7zip can pack them into a zip file. However, you should probably not pack them into it's type which is 7z, because other people might not to be able to.

But for just unpacking files  7zip will be fine!

Lifestyle / Re: Presentations and Stage Frights
September 21, 2010, 05:00
Hmm... I don't know what type of presentations these are, but it's useful to have some sort of display (pictures in power point slides) to help keep the audience a long as well as remind you where you are in your presentation.

This depends on the person, but sometimes engaging the audience to keep a friendly atmosphere helps (like asking questions).

If you know the information you are presenting well, to help you get out of that "stuck at reading off the script" feeling, you can instead use general outlines. Meaning your script is just a general outline of the topics you want to cover (like important points) and just let your knowledge guide yourself through without having to feel like you must follow the script exactly.

That's probably what helps me the most. Prepare the information you want to say, but let your own knowledge naturally guide how you want to explain it. Helps me come out more naturally.

I typically watch anime first, because I can't seem to watch an anime that I've read the manga of.

The only anime I typically enjoy is... original series or novel series turned anime. Anime of a manga or manga of an anime usually ends up in boredom for me. I just normally don't have the patience to watch an anime of a manga if I've read the manga. The only times would be when I want to watch an animated version in expectation of uber fight scenes. ;D!

I'm also a major gamer girl - a perfect game for me being anything by Bioware or with a similar "formula" to what they use. For a game to be a truly memorable experience [for me] it has to have the right  balance of storyline, characterization, hack 'n' slash and personalization. Probably because of this I get sick of MMORPG's quite quickly (that and I really hate grinding).

I am sold, someone finally calling themselves a gamer! While Bioware makes solid games, I still have more of a soft spot for the JRPG's. Especially something like the Kingdom Hearts series ^^; When I finally finish school this term, I am going to buckle down and finally play Final Fantasy XIII.

Ooo but a new Golden Sun is finally announced as well, one of my favourites as well xD... So many games to play when I'm done school I will permenately be in heaven. Especially with Starcraft II just on the horizon ;D!

Let's go everybody on the floorrrrrrrr

I'm supergirl, I'm everywhere
Those flashin' lights, they stop and stare
I'm fire red, I'm on a roll
I'm in your head and everybody knowssssss

Avatar was more of a 3D tech demo to impress and start a 3D hype bandwagon.

But we all know... The Life in the Shoes of an Editor would be golden. ;O...

Though I believe there were already plans to make a Mass Effect Movie.

Maybe my school was special. Because we had people destroying our exams, I think the top 10-15 marks in our math class were at 95%+ along with Chemistry and Physics (after factoring in standardized exams).

Though... With regards to getting into good schools, lots of those private schools have connections so there's a little more leeway. There's also a population skew, because I'd assume a majority of private school students are looking to enter a University whereas this is not the case at public schools. Not to say they aren't smart (the ones who get in), but private school is already a weed out, since you have to take their tests to be accepted. Also, many private students are more financially secure compared to regular students so given an offer, they can accept it. I know in the case here, people at my school gave up offerings to go to good Universities (Yale, Brown etc) because they had full scholarship acceptance to some of the Universities here instead.

But the case is a little different here, because most of the really renowned schools are outside Canada, so even if you get in, you'll be considered a foreign student and... I could only imagine how much it would cost to be a foreign student at a famous University ;/

Though, I think you are confusing the have to be good part. Private schools teachers are likely to have better credentials and levels of education but high qualifications do not always mean they can teach well (Wishes I could learn from my profs!). Though I guess that's the illusion, because the things they teach you before University are really structured. Like teaching you to do well on the standardized exams, it was like that here too D;...

Though your private school does sound awesome regardless. 50% entrance, like 50 people getting accepted. I didn't even apply outside of Canada because foreign student fees would have tore me apart.

Funny though, when you say this A-LEVEL thing I just keep thinking of Naruto mission rankings xD...

College here is different to what most people think of it as :)

Secondary School is up to 16.
College (a.k.a. Sixth Form) is from 16-18.
University is 18+.

Sounds like Junior High and Senior High to me.

I know a few friends that went to private school... Kind of funny how that alone is more expensive compared to University ;x. Teachers are more school subjective though. I'd imagine private school has a higher chance to have more qualified teachers, but my High School teachers were really good.

Though it'd be interesting to see the atmosphere difference at private... I mean reading all these manga about all-girl/all-boy schools... But alas that will never happen unless I somehow become a private school teacher.

Must be nice... Having all that money T.T;

Hmm... I might as well "list" the ones I've read. I say list, because I'm just linking my manga-updates list, because it takes too long.

I have 3 list categories...

Reading List (Up to date) - 166
http://www.mangaupdates.com/mylist.html?id=109816&list=read

Catching Up (Manga that is being caught up) - 320
http://www.mangaupdates.com/mylist.html?id=109816&list=user3

Favourites (Not exactly "favourites" just a reminder of interesting ones) - 31
http://www.mangaupdates.com/mylist.html?id=109816&list=user1

Which is about 517 manga that I've at least looked at. I probably have a bunch more I forgot to keep track of.. But meh. This doesn't include completed manga of course ^^;...

Drop a glowing light in the middle between the girl and the bird!
#79
Photo manipulator eh... Actually it looks beautiful.

I could be wrong, but for some reason I feel the light source on the bird doesn't match with the person, and that the background near the bottom is a bit too dark. Also the light intensities on the glowing seem a little off.

But I'm not really an expert at this stuff so that's just gut instinct... But it looks really good nonetheless.

When I pick manga, I look for very interesting characters that involve a ton of development and interesting worlds. Normally, I've found the characters that interest me more in shounen/seinen. Though I still read a decent amount of shoujo I guess. When you've at least looked through almost 600 some series, even if only 10% are shoujo, that's still quite a bit xD...

The anime I tend to watch or like happens to be more based on novels or original works. Most ones based on novels I haven't read so they are fresh for me, or actual original works which are usually pretty cool.

Sometimes the other problem with lots of new anime is they are based on relative new manga. So I look at it and it's like... it's only two volumes into the manga. So you know it'll have to change or have no real ending -_-; And then of course you have those were like omg the manga is so bad, why is this an anime D;...

As for anime usually I look at which groups are doing the subs. So I take a look at AniDB which has a good listing of the subs doing each series. Then I typically search it up on Tokyo Toshokan (like a torrent tracker). If it's not there I tend to go to the groups website itself to see if I can find the torrent.

Anime done well can be really good. I am currently really impressed by Kara no Kyoukai. Especially when they deliver on animation, music, plot and character. Though what tends to happen is you get all the ecchi manga turned into anime because apparently that is what sells in Japan... So unless you want to fly to Japan and start buying a billion copies of your favourite anime, it's not going to change anytime soon xD...

If you are wondering what type of characters/types I look for hmm... I'll list some of the shoujo/josei that I've enjoyed.

Renmei no Arcana
Tokage
Ame Nochi Hare
Goong
Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei
Hanatsukihime

Maybe you've read some of them :P

Manga / Re: Which one started it all?
May 07, 2010, 21:18
No, I only got into it early because I use to watch like Sailormoon, Dragon Ball, Pokemon and all that stuff on YTV (when I was young). This is before I ever got into manga or anything. Then again in High School a bunch of my girl friends I knew were really into Naruto and Prince of Tennis (always fantasizing about some sort of yaoi couples >_>) and that's when I started to pick up Naruto and Prince of Tennis as well. About that same time I started getting into manga and anime pretty heavily. But I stopped for a while and got sucked into WoW for a great deal of time.

Then near the middle of university I started to pick up massively into anime, catching up on a lot of old series, and now I'm a pretty heavy manga reader. The probably biggest reason I don't watch anime as much is that seemingly a huge majority of anime that comes out I've read the manga or parts of it and therefore aren't really interested in the anime. And of course that 90% of the the series coming out are actually garbage >_<...

I also prefer manga cause it just feels more accessible haha and it sure doesn't take up a ton of space on my harddrives. I'm the type that doesn't like to delete the anime I download xD.

Reason I tend to not read shoujo is I like darker themes, and generally more represented in seinen. Plus... a large majority of shoujo art is a turn off for me :S

Bribe your grade and use underhanded tactics~

Though the only real suggestion is take your time and enjoy your High School years. Do whatever you feel you want to, but don't burn yourselves out. Because when you get into university, then you can remember the wonderful and awesome times you spent in High School. But don't mistake this for partying everyday. The real important thing about High School is developing good work habits. It will save your life many times over in the future ;)...

I'm not sure how your high school is but for me, marks didn't really matter until applying year. That is, the graduation year when you apply for universities. So if you have that type of system, you don't have to murder yourselves over marks too early.

ALSO MOST IMPORTANT. Take you any courses have an interest in and really try to find that subject you really enjoy. High School is a place to explore to find what you want to do for the rest of your life. This is especially important if you want to go to university. Finding out that you want to change faculties (delay your graduation) or regretting what you studied isn't a position you ever want to be in xD...

Manga / Zeeomg Manga Censoring~
April 17, 2010, 18:13
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?page=1&tid=17880

I ran across this post in mangaupdates. Basically, some manga are being censored and removed from some online manga sharing sites, like mangafox. Reading the thread it seems to be mainly targeting loli/shota content manga but it appears some others that have been tagged as adult/mature are also missing. Seems to be the advertisers of the site are threatening to pull adds unless they censor certain content.

http://l7world.com/2010/04/google-sponsors-child-pornography.html
This list to some of the "pointed" manga series that have been subject to being removed.

Now it kind of comes together a little, a few select mangas that I know I've been reading in the past at mangafox I couldn't search for it anymore, and found that they've been removed because they are too mature for the mangafox audience.

Not like I really care about loli/shota, but I do find censoring annoying. Hopefully this doesn't get too blown out of proportion and you see some heavy censoring. I really don't want to be like an IRC hunter to download manga... Specially some of the older stuff where the groups are now closed and you can't really find there stuff anymore.
