Music & Movies / Re: Concerts you been to?
September 22, 2010, 19:52
Long time ago Depeche Mode, recently the Yoshida Brothers (makes me want to take up the shamisen!)  The next concerts I'm looking forward to are the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and  Itzhak Perlman.

That's why it might help to talk to an admission counselor to get a feel of who they've admitted during the past admission cycle.  The university I work for makes a big show about the quality of students it admits.  For such departments as Engineering and Business an overall quality applicant  would be someone who's good at math/science, taken/taking challenging courses such as AP/Honors types, score high on the Math/Science portions of the ACT and/or SAT (as well as a good cumulative score)

I've seen the final transcripts of this Fall's incoming students.  Many are stellar, others okay, some so-so.  It's across the board.  There have been a number of admitted applicants who've declined my school's admission offers, so the university's letting things slide.  Don't be afraid.  Review your options - if you can't get into the dream school directly, check out what other options you have to get there.

Prepare yourself, find out what the application guidelines for all the schools you're interested in and get going!

:goodjob: Good luck!

>Was supposed to be just a lil ole shrub<

Hey Furge, weren't you supposed to be gone somewhere?  Or did I read the wrong post?

Love, "Mommy"

PS:  Have you watched "You're Beautiful"?  I love Jang Geun Suk's emo character!

Okay, I'm not a college admission counselor, but (unfortunately) I work with them.  Junior year is usually the time most high school students start looking at schools.  Ideally start researching as early as you can (I've taken calls from parents whose kids were just about to enter high school!)  Know what you want to major in so you can plan your high school courses accordingly.  Pick schools along realistic lines - in-state schools, local community colleges, dream schools.

If you have the chance, call and speak to an admissions counselor to get an idea of what to expect when you apply (especially right after an application cycle).  Visit websites and check out their blogs.  In this time of economic crunch entertain the thought of doing your general education requirements at a local community college and then transfer to the college of your choice.  It will save you money.

My own high school counselor sucked.  Be prepared to read up on the admissions policies of the schools you've chosen (not all schools have similar application guidelines).  Keep in mind application dates and deadlines - don't put off applying to the last minute!!!  Usually you will need to send in items that take time to process - transcripts, recommendations, test scores, payment, financial aid, etc.  Don't forget to make sure you've paid!  Some schools may let you check on the status of your application online, take advantage of that.

When you schedule a campus tour, ask if the school has departmental tours/presentations, ie. engineering or business, as well so you can check out those particular colleges.  Hope this rambling helps someone make their school choices.

Yaoi is like fine wine.  I like to read only a select few.  Edit them, um...  :o_o:

Once the Viewfinder series comes out towards the end of this year I'm thinking about getting them.  Great characters, action, drama, bromance!  Fire Eagle, Ice Hawk isn't bad either.   :goodjob:

Greetings from the current editor/typesetter of TnU.  Welcome to the team!  Looking forward to working with your translations.

Hey, welcome Eri-chan!  I'm still the oldest (won't reveal my actual age, since it's nothing to brag about...)  :=D:  Don't know if I'd want to be compared to cockroaches..  :omg:  I'm a picky fan of yaoi - my fave is the Viewfinder series (which is going to be re-released in the US, yeah!)

PS: Let me add a shout-out to my "off-spring" Furgeson/Lily who went off to a uncivilized location  :hi:

Ooh, nice work!  Wished I knew how to do that.

I agree about OHSHC and VK.  Lost interest in both animes (haven't read both mangas).  The longer something is dragged on the harder for the mangaka to finish a story?  Or how about stories that are all exciting and then they fall off a cliff?  The end.

Hey kiddo, it's Mom!  :hi:

There are a whole host of mangas with good starts and crappy endings (or at least heading that way)  One that I feel is dragging is
Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu.  Skip Beat's good, but the current Danger Siblings arc is killing me.  Tokyo Crazy Paradise was also good, but the ending was lackluster.  This prevents me from buying a lot of mangas, the drag + cost = expensive.

Guidelines / Re: Guideline: Typesetter
June 23, 2010, 13:30
Here's something I picked up that's foolproof:

1.  Download font file(s) of choice

2.  Unzip file and drag the font file to your desktop

3.  Open your C Drive and find the Microsoft folder (if you have Windows)
You might need to override the security setup (ie. files in this folder is hidden)

4.  Open the font folder and drag the font file from the desktop into it.  Close folder.

The font you have added should then appear in Photoshop.  I'm not exactly 100% thorough with the explanation since I'm on a work computer and not my own.  Once the procedure is done, you can delete the file that's on the desktop and your download file.

Fukuyadou Honpo (I got hooked!)
Oishii Kankei
Skip Beat (so slow in updating!)
You're My Loveprize in Viewfinder (permanently bookmarked)
Hana no Kishi (I love Venus Capriccio)
Ice Forest (ice dancing, hot bishies, hubba-hubba)
Tenshi no Uta (why I'm an editor here in the first place)

And a bunch more, but they've been slow to update.

Probably Voltron (which was just part of another anime, name escapes me at the moment).  Soooo old...

:noway: This is me on an empty stomach, sleep deprivation, caffeine, and sugar!

While it's not dramatic, TnU has its own charm, something like a sleeper.  I have other mangas that I'm currently following (ex. Skip Beat).  The other group I edit for is Wingtipcafe (Oishii Kankei and Doubutsu no Oisha-san).  I've done one chapter for Osuwari Team, but haven't heard anything else from them.  I like Oishii Kankei, glad that more chapters of Ice Forest have been scanlated, want to see more of Wallflower, among others.   :goodjob:

I actually like TnU (saw the complete raws, as well as the "sequel", so I sorta know how it's going to end)  Love to edit (I can do all three jobs, am also editing for another group as well) it's relaxing.  Looks like there's no current typesetter as well, so getting the new chapters out will be challenging.  I will continue to steadily work on editing all of volume 5.  Right now typesetting like a turtle...  Luckily where I am I have a Chinese friend who can help me translate anything that wasn't translated.  I'm too thorough in typesetting. *dead

*skip Is that you sonny boy?  Seriously, welcome Prismatic.  Right now I'm in the process of typesetting chapter 18 of Tenshi no Uta (having edited it as well) and have realized that even though I love doing this as relaxation, it's a lot of work.  *stress

It was how my ex greeted people.  Yeah, it kinda does sound like an opening to a Nigerian e-mail scam  :o_o:  Anyone else here a fan of Yamane Ayano-sensei?  I have her Viewfinder series bookmarked ever since I discovered it on Animea.  Love, love yaoi!

Thanks for the welcome, gummy!  I forgot to add that I'm trying to get the hang of typesetting as well.  Are there people here who think prepping/editing/cleaning/typesetting is fun?  Who's with me?  Oh, and my ultimate goal is to be able to translate (Japanese) as well, but that's not going anywhere at the moment. :=D:

My name's Jan, but in cyberspace I'd rather go by Shrubbery.  I've cleaned three chapters for two other scanlation groups so far.  Prepping/editing/cleaning is relaxation for me and I like to test my skills at fixing up backgrounds (I don't consider myself at ninja cloning level yet).  Looking forward to working on lots of chapters!
