It's a really common statement here in the U.S., Angel.  Well it's technically "you act like your shit don't stink" which is an insult to someone, saying they think they're better than everyone else.  Also used, but less frequently is "you think your shit smells like roses" or "you shit roses, huh?"

Some people try to be nicer and change "shit" to "poop" but that just makes it comical.  It's one of those things that works better with cuss words, improper grammar, and preferably a southern accent. ^_-

It's like "It's colder 'n a reindeer's balls" doesn't sound right if you change "balls" to "testicles" and "it's colder 'n a witch's tit in July" loses something if you say breast.

People I hate: people who try to make everyone else do things their way then get all offended and angry when they are presented with something that isn't their way.

WAIT, can you do one about how to clean dust quickly too? i'm pretty sure i'm doing something wrong if dust is what takes up the most time while cleaning a page lolol... *cough

Nope, I find that it takes up the most time for me, too.  Krissy has an "auto clean" tutorial that works...sometimes.  I can do my own video of that explaining it (she has subtitles) a little better, if you want. Like when to use it, how to avoid overdoing it, etc.

I'm finally making some editor how-to videos like I've been promising, but I don't remember all the ones I've said I'd do.  Here's my list so far:

Typesetter tutorials:  http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=4684.0
Centering text
Using Nexus Font
Using Typesetterer
Adding textures to text
Type tool presets

Cleaner tutorials:
Using screentones
Using the pen tool for redrawing
Perfect cloning incl. healing brush
Using actions
Leveling/Dodging/Burning
Auto cleaning

If you have any you'd like me to make, please request here! I'll eventually do one for Topaz Denoise, but I'm still getting used to the new version of it so it's not on the immediate list.

Edit: I'm striking them off as I make them.

I'm really really sorry you've had such a crappy time and that you're hurting.  I'm really glad that you feel like you can trust us and vent to us, though.  I've had to do it a few times and I always get a little scared thinking everyone's going to look badly at me for it, but at the same time, I feel like I have friends here and it does feel good to get things off your chest sometimes.

It makes me happy that you feel a safe, comforting environment here, too.  That there is one, that we can all be supportive of each other and get advice from each other is really great.  I hope from the bottom of my heart that you feel better and that things turn up for you, and that you keep feeling comfortable enough to talk it out to us until then.

But honestly, it's not really that time consuming to bake from the base, but I heard that it's more expensive to bake it that way. Is this true or is it just words of a lazy person?  ???
Does "from the base" mean you take all the ingredients and put them together (we call that "from scratch"), or do you use a pre-made mix and just add liquid ingredients?

If it's the former (from scratch), then it's cheaper but a bit more time consuming.  If it's the latter (use a mix), then it's faster but a bit more expensive.  Making a cake from scratch would be more expensive if you don't have flour, butter, eggs, milk, and sugar on hand, but since most people have those, it's cheaper.  Most Americans just don't know how to bake a cake unless they open a boxed mix and add eggs and oil.

The vast majority use a box of "just add water" pancake mix, which turned out to be a problem for me when at a friend's house and she asked me to make pancakes then handed me a box.  I seriously didn't know how to just add water.  I messed it up.  I don't know how you screw up adding water and mixing, but I did.  I'm too used to making homemade pancakes with whole grains and buttermilk.

but at least, it's real chicken D;
You're a little mistaken on this, which is normal (most people are).  Pink slime is mechanically separated beef, not chicken, and is used as a filler in beef products (at a legal percentage of no more than 25%).  A lot of ground beef used to contain it, but people got upset when they found out so that's not as common anymore.  It is real beef though; just pretty much ALL parts of beef, ground very very finely via heat.

Mechanically separated chicken is white slime, and is created by very finely grinding up the chicken (or turkey) carcass after the meat has been picked off by hand.  Then they run it through a sieve to get out any parts that are still hard.  It contains muscle, bone, marrow, tendon, and a small amount of meat.  It's also used as filler, and yes, does make up a large part of our cheap chicken nuggets.

Nowadays though, since most people are horrified by the use of pink/white slime, there's been a big rise in "all white meat!" chicken nuggets & tenders, made from cut up or minced breast meat.  At fast food restaurants it's usually just cut up pieces of breast meat breaded and fried, and you get the nasty nuggets in the freezer section of grocery stores, especially discount grocery stores.

I'm obsessive about making everything myself when I can, so I can't personally say how much the quality in packaged nuggets has gone up.  I can say with certainty that most fast food nuggets have improved greatly and are safe to eat if you come to visit the U.S.! Just stay away from the 99-cent nuggets, because they're still suspect.

I was pretty shocked when I realized flour is bleached in the US, and with actual bleach.
Yeah, but we can also easily buy unbleached flour, although it's mostly by one particular brand, which I've never had trouble finding.  Most people don't think twice about it and just get bleached flour, if they even bother baking at all.  MOST people just buy packaged pre-baked breads and things, which are all made with bleached flour (unless you get 100% whole-grain bread).

Americans bleach EVERYTHING.  We like our stuff white white white.  I don't get it, because personally, I HATE white bread and soft bread.  I bake a lot but when I buy bread, I always get multigrain because it's sturdier. :3

This is, to some extent, true.  Orange flower honey tastes different from clover honey, which is different from wildflower honey, etc.  But at the core, honey is honey and the differences are subtle.  All honey is quite sweet and doesn't need any sugar added!

I only buy local honey because it helps with my allergies a little, so I don't remember too well what imported honey tastes like, other than a little bit of a plastic taste.  I also keep a jar of raw honey on hand, which I use on my face because it's great for the skin, and for infections too because it's so antibacterial!

Ok, if you have to use those words, then use them.  Don't be so negative! You still need to do the best you can, or failure is VERY certain.  You said you feel like current teachers just halfass everything and view teaching negatively, so you have to be sure to put forth all your effort and positive energy into it!

A powerpoint file is called a powerpoint presentation, whether or not you actually present it!  :bingo:

Words like "phoneme" and "automaticity" (although the latter is showing up in my browser as being spelled incorrectly.

Also, on page 3 you have "The average child needs between four and 14 exposures to automatically the recognition of a new word" which should be "automatically recognize."  Make double sure your grammar and spelling are correct - you're going to be a teacher, so it looks bad if you can't even get it yourself.

Real natural honey is healthy, they smell really good but when you taste it; its not what you imagine what it should be. I watch it on disney o-o, it shows that real honey actually taste kind of bitter; it may smell really nice and you expect it to be really sweet but it's really not. It's because they add in sugar for a bit of flavor for children to eat.

Do you have studies on this? I know it's not U.S. produced honey.  A lot of our cheap honey is imported from China (via India), and it's been  tested and shown to be not 100% honey.  But U.S. produced honey is straight up honey and raw honey (which is what I think you mean by "real" is actually sweeter than filtered honey.  Disney channel straight up lied to you lol.

I looked at your powerpoint, and here are my notes:

  • Powerpoint presentations should be like outlines.  No paragraphs (and you have mostly those), but short quick notes segmented into points and subpoints.  Longer than this makes it hard to stay focused.
  • Your teacher said to avoid bigger words, and I noticed a couple.  Try to word it more simply and easier for someone not familiar with this topic to understand.

I've heard this phrase once: "Creative adults are the children who survived." I think that there is wisdom in there, because children have unlimited curiosity, creativity and are open to anything new.
Technically, all adults are children who survived...

And actually, children are less likely to be open to new things (ever try to get them to try a new food? Ugh.).  But they're more likely to ask questions.

in Scandinavia it's greatly discouraged to use caffeine as medicine (a lot of headaches are actually caused by the withdrawal of caffeine, while the other larger part of the cases is actually due to dehydration - which incidentally also can come from consuming coffee instead of water where the caffeine is flushing more water out) but you can buy the headache medicine with caffeine in a normal drug store, it's just not used much.
Yeah, caffeine isn't our most common pain killer here, I think it's only used in pain killer meds that also want to flush water from you, like in the menstrual medication where it's also fighting bloating.  I think humans are way too addicted to caffeine.  I try to stay away from more than one or two caffeinated drinks a week, myself.  I've seen people go through caffeine withdrawal and it's just as bad as nicotine withdrawal!

And honey being bad is the first I hear of it; it's considered a super food as it's more or less only healthy and hard to overdose.
Yeah! Did you know they found honey in pots in some of the pyramids and it was clearly thousands of years old and had hardened, but was still perfectly edible.  It never goes bad! Honey is a miracle food!

Quote from: LittleWeird on November 29, 2013, 23:43You know what else is a super food? POPCORN! YAAAY! The best part is that they found that even the most unhealthy version (microwave popcorn) is still a super food! But the microwave popcorn should be consumed in moderation due to the kind of salts and stuff they have in the pack.
Sadly, this would not be true of American-made popcorn.  Almost all corn grown in the U.S. is genetically-modified, which is hugely controversial over here.

Coffee isn't all that healthy. A cup every now and then won't do harm, but overconsumption will not only make you overweight and malnutrition, it will also give you stomach ulcers.

You say a lot of things that go against the things we're taught in America.  I wonder if it's a regional thing.  For instance, nutritionists over here say that coffee is good for you, and doesn't cause weight gain unless you add a bunch of stuff to it.  1 cup of black coffee a day is fine because it has vitamins and helps stimulate the digestive system.  We use caffeine as pain killer (it's the main active ingredient in our menstrual cramps medicine), and to help flush water from the body (useful in cellulite treatment!).

Vaux once said that honey was unhealthy because it's liquid sugar, but over here we use it as a healthy alternative to sugar.  It's also full of vitamins and is antiseptic and since it's sweeter than sugar, you can use less of it.  Like everything else on the planet except water, it needs to be taken in moderation, but is NOT the same thing as sugar and is healthy for you (unlike most sugar which is empty calories).

I'm not trying to argue over foods, but just point out the cultural differences.  This is what we're taught in America by nutritionists and doctors and scientists.  It just shows that all information is open to interpretation and different cultures and regions interpret differently.

though my parents and everyone else says i should stop those habits  :swt:

So? I repeat: is it harming you or anyone else to hold a cup with two hands or whatever? Nope.  Just because something is done by children doesn't mean it shouldn't be done by adults.

Children share with each other.  They see the world with inquisitive eyes and they constantly learn new things.  Should adults stop doing all that too just because children do it?

The fact that you want to be a decent person shows you're already off to a good start, ne?

You're thinking about things that most young adults think about, and never stop.  You don't end up a good person.  You continually work toward it.  That whole "life isn't a destination" crap applies more to what you're talking about than what it really means.  You never become a good person and just stay there.  You keep doing good things and trying to make yourself even better.  THAT is what being a good person is.  It's a paradox!

Look at three adults you admire.  I bet you can find them.  They might be family, or someone in the community, or even a celebrity.  What do you admire about them? How can you emulate those people? Don't try to become someone else, but do try to adopt the behaviors of the people you admire.

For me it's my aunt.  She's kind, friendly, honest, and a good mother.  When in tough parenting situations, I think how she would handle it, and then do that.  And I'm proud to say that even if I can't be as sweet as she is (I'm way too brash), at least I'm proud of the mother I've become, and the kindness I can show other people.

Everyone has role models, even if we don't realize it.  Just make sure the ones you're really modeling yourself after are people you really want to be like.  People you respect and adopt those respectable qualities without losing sight of who you are.

And if you stumble or do something you're not proud of, don't beat yourself up.  Treat it as a chance to learn from your mistakes and therefore do better next time.  Remember: being a good person is all about trying to be a good person, not necessarily doing everything perfectly.

P.S. - don't feel like you need to give up some of your "childish" traits.  If they're not harming anyone or yourself, what's wrong with them?

Yes, I did post a picture of us and my kid in the RL pictures thread, I think.  That was taken a year ago.  He now  is bald and has a full, bushy beard.

Yes, he has dark blue eyes.  His voice is deepish, but not really deep, nor husky.

Here's a picture of him from my stepdaughter's 5th birthday party back in April (the full beard has been for about two months now, and the bald head for a few weeks).

He looks older than his 35 years.  The Marine Corps tends to do that to people, I hear...

More description....he's 5'6", and a lot stronger than he looks.  He prefers button-down shirts, rolled up sleeves, and usually wears that snake necklace that he got in Japan (it's a real snake and that freaks people out).  He has "crazy eyes" and can stare down dang near anyone.

He actually didn't dress up much for the pirate party.  That's pretty much how he normally dresses.

That's not true, Ange. You're fluent in a few languages too! :goodjob:

I'm good at:
- British English, English literature (the Australian and British kind)
- Research (I have access to scholarly databases which helps heaps)
- Basic Tagalog, Bisaya, Mandarin
- Business theories, accounting, international business processes, finance, trade, investment, countries (culture, laws, and business)
- Law and ethics, precedents
- Whatever I can recall from AP Maths: some Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry

Not as impressive as some people but I will definitely try my best to help, if need be.

Seriously though, I think you already have it figured out pretty well.  Why tell her right away and get her worked up if it ends up not going anywhere? And if it does end up being a great relationship and she can't be happy for you, then that shows what kind of friend she really is...

My latest screen cap! It's how I have Nexus Font organized, and my fonts folder for comparison.

Since I use a TON of fonts for my job (graphic designer), I have them organized into folders anyway.  Then in Nexus Font, I created groups to mimic those folders.  All my fonts for Transcendence are in the "Comic" folder, as seen in the screen cap.  You can see how Groups are folders or groups of folders.

Then I have Sets for each project I do, be it for work or Transcendence.  For manga, each manga project on which I work has its own set full of all the fonts I use for it.  I just go into the "Comic" group and select the fonts I want for the project, then right click on them and add them to the set (Migawari, Sugar Family, etc.).

Ha ha! I did that yesterday.  I was walking down the sidewalk with a friend, decked out and looking hot in platform boots, and then suddenly tripped on a crack.  I didn't fall down though, and I just straightened up and said, "well that was classy" and continued on like nothing happened.

Crises: almost averted.

My husband and I just watched "Cowboys and Aliens" and it was so bad, we kept interjecting other movie quotes on top.  Like when the guy stuck a bunch of dynamite on the alien, we started quoting "Dy-no-MITE" from "Without a Paddle."

We were singing Kid Rock's "Cowboy" through the supposedly badass parts.  And when the weird obscene-looking alien hand came out of its chest, we were going, "the clawwww!" from Toy Story.

I do this too! But I usually catch myself before other people notice.  I think...

I discovered a new one! That unfortunately, my husband discovered a long time ago and has been exploiting for YEARS before I caught on.

If someone starts singing part of a song or a jingle and doesn't finish, I'll finish it for them. Every. Time.

Husband: "I like chicken, I like liver..."
Me: "Meow mix, meow mix, please deliver! DAMMIT I DID IT AGAIN!"
Husband: *cracks up*
......

Husband: "I like chicken, I like liver...."
Me: ....
Husband: "I LIKE CHICKEN, I LIKE LIVER...."
Me: "A HA! I didn't say it! ...verbally."
......

Husband: "I can't get no..."
Me: *whispers* "...satisfaction..."
......

It never fails.  :whaat:

Yesss.... My OCD is really severe and it used to make living with me unbearable sometimes, especially for myself.  I've overcome a lot of it but still sometimes have really bad days where I can't eat anything or move much because it feels like my skin is crawling.

I've figured out ways to deal with most of the neuroses, though!  :hmmm:

Today I drank a cup of coffee (believe it or not, this isn't a daily occurrence for me; I'm very sensitive to caffeine).  Shortly afterward, my allergies began acting up.  Not from the coffee, but I think it's because I started getting my allergy shots again and my body has to get used to it.

Anyway... since my allergies were going haywire, I took a benadryl.  Benadryl is the only anti-histamine I can take, but it knocks me flat.  I took it anyway and decided to take a nap.  But the caffeine kept me awake, and the combination of the two made me super shaky and antsy, like I was on speed or something.  And then because I couldn't sleep off the benadryl, I'm now all loopy like I've had a high-end painkiller.

So moral of the story: caffeine and benadryl don't mix.  I DUN RECOMMEND IT.   :whirlpool:
