Title: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: nancy on July 23, 2009, 10:06
Alright, I am going to restart this thread since I definitely loved everyone's previous recommendations. Whoever gave a recommendation on the other site, just copy and paste what you wrote before or add some new ones! xD
Just to get things moving here is what I would recommend (from before and after the previous recs) ^_^

1/2 Prince
It is the year 2100A.D., humans have developed a virtual reality game. Feng lan, due to a bet with her brother, vows to beat the game without using her "female benefits". Due to this, she becomes the first transgendered character in "Second Life". As her infamy rises as a blood thirsty warrior, can she keep her game identity a secret from her real life acquaintances whom she has beaten to pulp?
(So...a whole group of other people recommended this one and I definitely have to agree with them and recommend this. It's just too good!)

Skip Beat
Kyoko Mogami lived solely for her childhood friend Shotaro "Sho" Fuwa. She follows Sho to Tokyo so that he may realize his dream of becoming a famous singer. But when his dream is realized, Kyoko accidentally learns the truth behind his actions of bringing her with him: He was using her as a way to help him achieve his dream of becoming a celebrity.

Shocked and enraged, Kyoko vows revenge against him by beating him at showbiz. She joins LME, the agency where Ren Tsuruga--Sho's rival and the number 1 actor of LME--works at in the hopes of realizing her dream of revenge and destroying Shotaro's pride.

Along the way, however, she will discover who she really is, make new friends, and find herself in interesting situations that will change her life forever.
(This one is hilarious. It's "shoujo", but I think a good number of guys enjoy this series too xD)

Tokyo Crazy Paradise
It's the year 2020 AD, and Tokyo II is a city infested with crime. Women can no longer go out in the streets alone without being victimized. Not wanting their daughter to suffer the same fate, Tsukasa Kozuki's cop parents raise her instead as a boy. When they are suddenly killed by one of the yakuza's in-fights, Tsukasa is left orphaned on the streets along with her three brothers. With no other options, she goes to the only person she can think of for help: pokerface Ryuji Shirogami, her classmate of 8 years and also the head leader of the powerful yakuza group, Kuryugumi. Ryuji, whose father was also a victim of the same yakuza fight, agrees to take her on as his personal bodyguard. As they set out to find their enemy, Ryuji slaps on an increasing amount of debt onto Tsukasa using all manners of ploys necessary to keep the reluctant Tsukasa by his side.
(From the same author as Skip Beat. Ok...you might get turned off by the drawings at first, but keep on reading! I swear it grows on you!)

Nodame Cantabile
The son of a famous pianist, music student Shinichi Chiaki dreams of studying abroad and becoming a conductor like his mentor. Unfortunately, his fear of flying grounds his lofty plans! As he watches other classmates achieve what he has always wanted, Shinichi wonders if he should quit music altogether.
Then one day he meets fellow student Megumi Noda, also known as Nodame. This oddball girl cannot cook, clean, or even read a music score, but she can play the piano in incomparable Cantabile style. And she teaches Chiaki something that he has forgotten: to enjoy his music, no matter where he is.
(If you have never started on this before and you're not too big of a "classical music" fan...then I reallyyyy suggest you start off with the anime!)

Slam Dunk
Hanamichi Sakuragi is a delinquent who has never had any luck with girls. However, when he meets Haruko Akagi, he is sure that she's the one for him. Haruko is a big basketball fan and notices his potential as a basketball player (due to his immense height). Hoping to win her heart, Hanamichi earnestly tries out for the basketball team. Does this complete newbie have what it takes to even join the team?
(SENDOH *fan-girlish scream* (ok, so I really have never screamed like that, but you get what I'm trying to say).)

I am pretty sure I have more to recommend, but I will move onto the next topic =]

Yay! Thanks for the transfer! ^__^

I second Tokyo Crazy Paradise. The drawing is a bit discouraging at the begginging. but it does get better as the story goes on. Trust me, its wroth it.

LOVE 1/2 Prince. A must read for fans of gender benders. Did you know that there is actually a game called Second life? (you can actually make real money by playing that game...well, its not that fun if you are not good with computers and digital graphics x.x;)

Kyaaaaaaaah! Sendoh! <333

:O I never knew that you were a Sendoh fan xD
I was always under this impression that you like Rukawa for some reason... :P
Eeeeee Sendoh <33

*ahem!* Err a manga suggestion?
I don't know... I guess Full Moon ([w]o Sagashite) by Arina Tanemura
According to my friends, the drawing style is considered bimbotic  :'( But I like it!

Short summary: It's about this 12-year old girl (if I'm not wrong) called Mitsuki who aspires to be a singer. When she was younger, she and her childhood friend, made a pact, to achieve their dreams. And hers was to become a famous singer. However, she has a sarcroma (a sort of throat condition), and her grandmother (whom she lives with because her parents passed away) doesn't approve of music. But one day she meets two Shinigamis whom only she can see. And BLAH BLAH BLAH happens.

Yeah. xD
I'm lousy at summaries. :(

I strongly recommend these mangas:

The World God Only Knows - H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S fufu~ I just love Keima's idiotic expressions<3

Cat Street - Not many people appreciate this manga, but for me, it's one of the best mangas ever <3

Have any of you tried Fly High? There's only 4 chapters out, but It's pretty cool. It's a bit cliched but still likable, and the art's really good. ^^

It's hilarious, especially because of how slow the girl is. :D

Recommendation thread~ :D

@ Mithril: I second Cat Street. Such a bittersweet manga (I prefer it over her HYD) and the couple I was supporting got together in the end so it was a mega-plus ending for me. <3

Here are the mangas i would reccomend:

Again Fly High
Meru Tachibana is a 12 years old girl. She's just returned back to Tokyo after spending her life living with her father and undergoing intense martial arts training. Meru's father is an expert all-around martial arts fighter, when he came home from a trip, he discovered that his wife had delivered his child, conceived during his previous visit home. Without even asking, he assumed the toddler was a boy, and took Meru away vowing he would make her the strongest man ever. Now Meru is stronger than most guys, and she's doing her best to make sure that people don't find out, or else her chances of making friends is ruined! However, Meru's junior high is ruled by three 2nd year students who are making everyone's lives absolute hell. Meru decides to stand up to the bullies, and she volunteers to become the new student council president, the direct enemy of the evil trio!
(Sorry, I'm not good at making summaries...but Fly high is a manga i definitely recommend, it's really good !! )

Cinderella Boy
One of the five handsome men in the incredibly popular idol group "Z", Yoshimura Riku, is actually a girl! She's tied with the leader, Touya, for popularity. She pretends to be the type of guy that makes all the girls smile and is extremely cool-looking. However, when she receives a Christmas present from Touya, she decides she wants to show him her feminine side...!?
(It's really a good manga and the end is really hilarious <3)

Twice I started to read Tokio CP and left it... maybe I should really read it. I even have it downloaded

Here are some not that popular mangas:

Show me the money - Hilarious Taiwanese manga about a girl to whom money means everything.

Dahasu Zuhn's father has just gotten into debt and now his son, Dahasu Zuhn, is in poverty. He meets a girl called Amei Jin who's super strong and has a reason to get money. Dahasu also attends the High School, Freedom High School where he can get in for free. He meets Jin at the school and learns that she needs money for a special reason. Now he is her slave because he owes her 20,000 yen. Whatever shall Zuhn do?

For all lovers of short, cute shoujo stories - the works of the mangaka Shimaki Ako

Totally Captivated  (This is Shonen Ai *boy love* Though... So dont read it if you are a homophobe)

Click This is Shoujo, A Really nice Gender Bender...Though you would not find the scanlations the normal way. (you'd have to download them on IRC) But its REALLY good. So ask me if you dont know how, but wants to read it ^^

Probably that's why it can't be found on direct download...

Yeah, it's licensed by Net Comics >_< lol. You can read that manhwa on manga.animea.net >_<

@Yume: <3<3<3<3 I was pretty satistfied with the ending >_< I didn't expect Keito and Kouichi to end up together. I like them but I still prefer ReixKeito >_<
Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: Yume on July 25, 2009, 00:20
@ Mithril: Aww (actually I wasn't expecting Keito x Kouichi either but then the surprise twist came and oAo!!). The ending was nicely done, linking back to "Cat Street" and all~ <3

And ahh, I shall copy and paste my post in the old forum.

QuoteI second FMA, Skip Beat, Natsume Yuujinchou (lol), and Liar Game~

Depending on your tastes, I would add:
Pandora Hearts: My avatar is from this series and it's love~ The manga art is so amazing. There are slight Alice in Wonderland references (which was what lured me in the first place) but the plot is quite independent and interesting. The crack is... There's crack on the book covers, in betwen volumes and within the story itself. Reminds me of FMA in that aspect. XD

Cafe Kichijouji de: Simple slice-of-life and humour is very hard to pull of in my opinion. This series does this quite well in a quirky way. LOL. 5 hot guys working in a cafe, with no hint of shounen-ai. O: Wow! *kicked* Each chapter is filled with randomness and after each chapter, there is a short chapter of them in CHIBI FORM. I really recommend just buying the 3 complete volumes to read over and over again for a good laugh. Oh yes, and the art is clean and brilliant. It's supposed to have restarted in Japan last year though but I can't find the raws if any.

Kimi to Boku: This is kinda similar to Cafe Kichijouji de but it's less "action" XD The art is simple and straightforward. The series revolves around 4 boys and the random moments they have. Sometimes it goes back to when they were really young (and adorable) too. It's a good breather from all the drama and killings you have in other manga.

Deadman Wonderland
: Ahh I don't know, just read it~ *lazy to type more* ohohoho You either like the crazy setting, characters or not. The art is really good, and at times...explicit. But I think Mirai Nikki is crazier so I guess DW is still okay. I love Crow~ We need more Crow!

And you may have read it, but I recommend Antique Bakery too~ The story-telling is awesome. I know it has yaoi under its genre but there's no eye-pleaser if you know what I mean. I don't reallly read yaoi anyway. XD Do not watch the Korean remake. Unless you like...more fanservice.

The only other series I would add is Nousatsu Junkie because I finished reading it (16 volumes) and it is just pure love~ Fukuyama Ryoko's art is rather unique and may be hard to accept at first - but it gets better. The characters may also seem similar but they soon grow into their own moulds, because they are given enough individual depth and characterisation. And the relationships - zomg usually I fear when love triangles are horribly done but the one/two love triangles in NJ were nicely handled. The story development was finely done, addressing the whole gender-bender issue, and it was sweetly ended off (because I'm easily happy when it links back to the meaning of the title).
Usually I get bored of shoujo manga if it stretches on for too long *coughcough* but while reading NJ volume by volume my anticipation grew and I was actually disappointed when I heard it ended at volume 16. But after reading it I must say it was just-nice.
Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: Misaki on July 25, 2009, 23:13
@ Yume: Oh, I love Nousatsu Junkie too. It's a great series with well-rounded characters.

I'm not sure if anyone has similar interests as me - I usually like shoujo manga with pretty art. Hahahahaha I know, I'm so vain. =) And such a girl~  ;)

Nabi
The series begins as a guest visits a temple where Myo-Un and Ryu-Sang are living along with many other orphan children. This guest turns out to be an assassin who came to kill a certain someone who is the last child of a powerful family in Su country. The assassin's employer, who remains anonymous, wants to clean up every root of possible problems.

The assassin calls for reinforcements and attacks the lady of the temple, revealing that the lady of the temple is also another last descendent of another powerful family that was drawn out of Su country. Myo-Un, Ryu-Sang, and others are forced to flee the temple.

Thus, Myo-Un & Ryu-Sang's journey begins, and the assassin is still after them.

My thoughts: It's a really good manhwa, with a blend of mystery, action, possibly romance and comedy! The characters are well developed and Kim Yeon Joo's art is beautiful. I do warn you though, Kim Yeon Joo is really cryptic and deep - you can't just look at the artwork and go 'oh this is so pretty/cute' because you'll totally miss the plot. It can be confusing, but I love it.  :)

Arisa
Tsubasa and Arisa are twin sisters who haven't seen each other for three years due to their parents' divorce. They have communicated through letters, but finally decide to meet each other again.

Arisa, the more gentle of the twins, suggests that Tsubasa take her place at school for a day, just for fun.
However, there are things about Arisa and her school that she hasn't mentioned to Tsubasa--dangerous things.

My thoughts: I thought it would be the typical shoujo stuff, filled with cliches. BUT IT'S NOT. The artwork is really nice and the plot is amazing! When each chapter ends, I'm always like 'I want MOARRRR'.  ;D It's a good mix of mystery, shoujo and maybe romance!

Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume
Takamura Uru takes her mother's remarriage as an opportunity to strike out on her own and begin a part time job. Filled with the thought of "If only I could make someone happy...", she begins working at Café Bohneur, a shop famous for cakes; but the employees, Ichirou-kun and Shindou-san, turn out to be incredibly unsociable. These two, though frightening at first glance, begin to change something inside of her. This is the start of a romance about Uru's search for happiness.

My thoughts: I admit, when I read the plot it didn't seem that interesting. I thought 'meh!'  ;) But after taking a chance, I was instantly drawn in because of the interactions between the characters and sweetness of the manga. It's a nice light read, filled with cuteness (but not sparkly cuteness) and heart-warming characters. Uru is totally cute  :D The art style is simple and nothing mind-blowing but it is still pleasing to the eyes.

/runs away to hide.  :)

Post by: werr on July 26, 2009, 06:17
I just read two stories which were amazing  ;D

Red Lion: Quite possibly the best and most reknown fighter of all the schools is a red haired girl, solely referred to as the Red Lion. But as the Red Lion suddenly disappears one day, we find that's only the beginning to the trials of real "Red Lion".

It's quite old and the images are small (bad RAWs i guess). The red lion actually transfers to a different school because she promised her parents to stop fighting... yeah right! Like that could happen :P

The kidnapping of Minja Jo's boyfriend:  Two high school girls are complete enemies, and they both are in their own gangs. They fight each other all the time, and to get even with the other, one girl tries to kidnap the other's boyfriend. But the information her right-hand girl gives her is wrong, and they kidnap some really good-looking guy who is NOT the boyfriend of the other girl. You know what happens. They fall in love.

It's only 6 chapters but it's really good. It is divided in two. The first story is the actual kidnapping and the second is after they fall in love.

@ Misaki: NJ! <3 I couldn't help but love all the characters as the series went on~
And ditto Arisa! It looked like typical shoujo indeed but it's actually so much more sinister! oAo And you're so right about wanting more after each chapter. XD

@ werr: I recall my friend asking me to read The kidnapping of Minja Jo's boyfriend but I don't remember what happened anymore. Hmm. =w="

my fav is skip beat! i second skip beat, fly high, pandora hearts, tokyo crazy paradise!

I gt some recommendations:

La corda d'oro
it was originally a game but i think botht the manga and anime are nice-
Every few years, the prestigious Seiso Academy holds a prominent musical competition, and only the very best students at the Academy are allowed to participate. Though all are eligible to apply, only students from the music department actually make it to the competition...until now.

Hino Kahoko goes to this amazing school, though she is in the regular department and knows nearly nothing of music. That is until one day, when she meets a curious little creature who introduces himself as a music fairy by the name of Lili. This fairy gives the unwilling Kahoko a magical violin, which any one can play. That day, the names of the students who are to participate in the music competition are announced – and Kahoko's on the list! Suddenly Kahoko is thrown into a world of music, where every note counts, where she must strive to be perfect. And then there are the other competitors, a timid girl and five handsome, musical young men who are all effected by Kahoko's music in very different ways. One thing's for sure – Seiso Academy will never be the same.

Special A
it's  TOTALLY HILARIOUS-
Have you ever known someone who was better than you at everything you did? Hikari does. She has known Kei since they were both six years old and he's surpassed her at everything. Now they are the top two students in an extremely prestigious high school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position, and Hikari is still determined to beat him, no matter what it takes to obtain the number position and defeat Kei. Although Kei likes Hikari more than a friend, she's too dense to realize it herself. Will Kei's love be returned? Will Hikari finally manage to defeat Kei?

gakuen alice
well, it started off being funny and hilarious but the  more recent chaps are veryt ouching and sad-
Mikan Sakura runs away from home one night to find her best friend, Hotaru Imai, who has moved into Gakuen Alice, (Alice Academy)a rich school for geniuses. When Mikan finally comes to the school, she discovers this school is out of the ordinary! Every student has a special power, called an Alice. Mikan surprisingly finds out she has one too!

the following mangas that i will be recommending are ~quite~ long...but they're not boring!

Bleach-
The story opens with the sudden appearance of Shinigami Rukia Kuchiki in Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom. She is surprised at his ability to see her, but their conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a "hollow", an evil spirit. After Rukia is severely wounded while trying to protect Ichigo, she attempts to transfer half her powers to Ichigo in order to let him face the hollow on equal footing. Ichigo unintentionally absorbs almost all her energy, allowing him to defeat the hollow with ease. The next day Rukia appears in Ichigo's classroom as a seemingly normal human, and informs Ichigo that his absorption of her powers has left her stranded in the human world until she recovers her strength. In the meantime Ichigo shelters Rukia in his home and takes over her job as a Shinigami, battling hollows and guiding lost souls to the afterlife realm known as Soul Society.

Detective conan
the art in the first few chaps or vol aren't very good but the art improved =D(btw it's the longest manga i ever read,700+chaps -0-)-
Shinichi Kudo is a high school student who, by using observation and deduction, is good at solving mysteries. While investigating one, he is caught by the criminals that he was watching and forced to take an experimental drug. Leaving him for dead, the criminals disappear. Instead of killing him, however, the drug turns Shinichi into a little kid.

To preserve the illusion of his 'disappearance', Shinichi adopts a new name based on his favorite author (Arthur Conan Doyle) and becomes Conan Edogawa. Ran, his (actually Shinichi's) childhood friend takes this little boy under her wing and brings him to her home. Conan now lives at a detective agency run by Ran's father, but his mind is as keen as ever and he continues to solve mysteries...always allowing Ran's father to take all the credit.

As far as everyone's concerned, Conan is just a little kid anyway...even to Ran. This is *extremely* frustrating to Conan since nobody will listen to a 'little boy'. In spite of this, Conan has a mission...to find the criminals who did this to him and get the antidote to that drug.

@ Shiko: I read the first three series you recommended. (Ah well...though I stopped for La corda.) XD

Gakuen Alice's plot is pretty intriguing and dark later on - I'm just having problems digesting that they're so young. But, I still <3 Ruka-pyon~ I've yet to read Special A's last volume though I can see how it's being wrapped up.

i almost forgotten one more manga:
Fruits basket-
When high school student Tohru Honda's mother dies in a car crash, Tohru remains optimistic and begins living in a tent and supporting herself, until she finds lodging – and friends – in the least likely of places: the home of the school "prince," Yuki Sohma, along with Yuki's cousins Kyo and Shigure. The Sohma clan holds a dark secret, however: the family is cursed, so when certain members of the family are hugged by someone of the opposite gender, they turn into a Zodiac animal! It is unheard of for an outsider to learn the clan's secret, but when Tohru discovers she promises not to tell, and continues living with Yuki, Kyo and Shigure. The Souma's curse, however, is much deeper and darker than it may seem, but Tohru's presence soon becomes a positive influence on the lives of those possessed by the Zodiac, and certain events are put in motion that will change the Sohma clan forever.

I suggest Beast Master!!! One of the best manga's I've ever read!

Here's a sypnosis coming from onemanga.com:

Yuiko Kubozuka is a high school girl who loves animals. Unfortunately, animals hate her and flee from her whenever possible. So when a new classmate, Leo Aoi, turns out to be a scary guy who resembles a wild animal than anything human, she is intrigued. Not only because Leo has an affinity with animals which she envies, but also because he isn't the wild animal that he seems to be. He seems to hide a very sweet disposition behind his scary features.
Or so she thought. The truth is revealed when they are attacked and Leo immediately behaves like a wild animal and gets violent like a blood-thirsty animal, just to save Yuiko.
Will Yuiko be able to tame this wildest of all animals or will he be just like the others and flee from her? Or the better question, will she flee from him?

I really think cat street is nice... I got the whole set of books at gome.
for me, action, psychological and fantasy suit me the most. And the summary are copied from other webs.  :shy:
i must really recommend these:

Alive - The Final Evolution
A high schooler named Taisuke Kanou is living with his older sister, Youko, after the death of his parents. He lives a relatively quiet life until a massive surge of suicides around the world known as the "Nightmare Week" begins.

From that moment on, weird phenomena begin to occur around Taisuke. He is victim of space travelling illusions. He sees a smiling girl who jumps to her death from atop a building. His best friend, Hirose, is framed for murder. His classmates are killing themselves for no apparent reason. Furthermore, the police always seem to keep an eye on Taisuke while investigating Hirose's case. At the same time, a psychotic murderer appears, and he sees our protagonist as his "comrade". Will Taisuke succumb to all of these crazy incidents? Or will he be able to someday return to his old peaceful lifestyle that he yearns for?

Medeka Box
Kurokami Medaka, a first year, is elected as Student Council President, and the first thing she does is establish a suggestion box. Since she was just elected as Student Council President, she's holding all the Student Council's responsibilities, and wearing their armbands.
So, she asks for her childhood friend, Hitoyoshi Zenkichi, for help.

Megalomania
Set in a future where humans are not the only beings, there are tensions between two races (humans and demihumans). Humans of an age before created these demihumans as slaves to their society. But then a war broke out and demihumans were freed from their enslavement though still restricted to lead lowly lives.

Canon Passacagilia, an officer of the East Side's Police Bureau's Special Second Division who are in charge of dealing with crimes related to demihumans. She patrols this city's streets helping all she can.

Pyscho Buster
Four teenagers with special powers ran away from their "farmers" and are now targeted. They have found out that the only one that can save them is Kakeru, a normal boy that reads manga, plays game, and likes being in his own fantasy world all day.

these are the few manga that ever get realised but they're really good!!! :goodjob:

Um, not sure if this is dead or not, but here goes anyways.

Houou Gakuen - Misoragumi

Genre: Comedy, Gender Bender, School Life, Shoujo

Kei is a girl who's only interested in other girls! However, tricked by her mother, she enrolled in an all boys school, thinking that she'd be able to make her high school debut at a co-ed school. To normal girls, being surrounded with hot guys at an all boys school might be heaven, but to Kei, this is hell! What is Kei to do at this place without any other girls, where she has to try her best to keep her real identity a secret?!

That ones is super funny, and I think you guys will love it =3

Shugo Chara

Categories: anime, comedy, fantasy, romance, shoujo

Everybody at Seiyo Elementary thinks that stylish and super cool Amu has it all: But nobody knows the real Amu, a shy girl who wishes she had the courage to truly be herself. Changing Amu

Way better then the summary, and it has a sexy cat boy named Ikuto <3333333

Dengeki Daisy

Categories: romance, school life, shoujo

"No matter what happens, I'll protect you."
Teru, a poor and kind girl, recently lost her older brother, her only remaining relative. Before he died he gave her a cell phone connecting her to a person he said would support her if ever he were unable to. As time passes she is cheered on by text messages sent from this enigmatic person, known only as DAISY. Then, one day, through an unexpected incident, Teru begins working for the delinquent school janitor, Kurosaki. But this sadistic scoundrel Kurosaki is really...!?

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING STORY

Reading this and every other story by this artist is a must :3

Also, Peach-Pit, which makes Shugo Chara has another series called Zombie-Loan, it's more of a shounen, but it's also amazing.

And Fairy Tail is another awesome manga

I second Shugo Chara, Skip Beat, and Fruits Basket! I love those series, although Fruits Basket is a pretty long one...

Here's my recommendation:
Kuroshitsuji
Categories: anime, comedy, fantasy, shounen, supernatural
Summary: To what extent must a housekeeper do things to be acceptable? One of the noble families of England: Phantomhive's butler: Sebastian Michaels has got unquestionably perfect knowledge, manners, talent with materials, martial arts, et cetera: but is also able to serve a 12 year old master. Wearing a grey tailcoat, gracefully brewing the worlds strongest red tea, please read on to see how such a perfect butler copes with such a master...

Love the images, and the books are like strings of mysteries...sort of. Sebastian and Ciel make the perfect team for the Queen of England!

YEYEYEYES!
I love those mangas!
Nodame Cantabile is out in anime, which for once, might be better than the manga.
I stress on non-crappy art styles, so no manhwa for me.
If You Want to Break this World: Also known as Vampire Girl. Underappreciated, but good after a fairly slow beginning, this is a bit old, and a nice read. It's slightly intense though. But that's how I like it...   :goodjob: Though the art is a bit... interesting...
HanaTsukiHime: A Must read. So sweet! So tragic! So much like Dengeki Daisy! So much not like Dengeki! Demon. Girl. Love.  :noway: Such a nice Shoujo!!! ~~~Wait! That sounds like Black Bird. MWAHAHA! What a nice plot!
Kurobara Alice: Lots of hairy tarantulas and suicide. A twisted shoujo tale gone off to the dark side. XD
Dokuhime: I admit, the art is off, but how can you resist?
Love Kaori Yuki!  *skip

3 Mayonaka wa Dame yo
4. Hoshiiro no okurimono
5. Junjou Romatica 1 and 2
6. Ren ai shijou shugi
7. Tales of the Abyss

i REALLY doubt Tales of the Abyss would be good but i'll just throw that in there anyways xD.

T___T *goes back to reminiscing about kuroshitsuji and 07_Ghost
DOKUHIME JUST GOT BETTER! XDDD
Who else thinks it's cool that she did some self-mutilation so they could be twisted little twins?
Ah... But they couldn't be prostitutes! OH NOES! ^___^
What an unusually dark story!  :=D:

I've never heard of them...
But last time I checked a few of those were smut.
Yaoi? Lover's Doll was good. Not graphic, just cute. It was kind of...
A waste of time. *coughs. More shounen ai than yaoi.  :goodmood:

I only loveeeee okay, DOUBLE love to read shoujo manga, but there's a few shounen that i've read tooo....
too many to list, just that the ones that i've been catching up on are:

Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Negima Sensei (not full title, but sorta name)
Skip Beat!
The One

monthly releases kill you know ):

and the rest are mainly shoujo manga that have been translated fully and i'm also been reading alot of Switch Girl (my current project) every two weeks ^^.

And i would love to learn korean/vietnamese if it helps me to read good manga faster LOL (I've been depending too much on korean and japanese translators) ... Let's face it, chinese mangas, ain't really that nice in plotline when you start to read Korean manga which has all these gangfights, love love stuff, parental complaints , conflicts ~~~ LOL I'm a expert on shoujo plotlines now XD

You young'uns. Its a pure hearted shounen jump series with an old a(http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kimagureorangeroad.jpg)rtstyle. I love how the hair is still simple <3.

The small downside is the old clothing but that can be interesting too.

Its a love triangle between a tomboy a girly girl and an esper <3. Its really sweet. Okay that image may not be the best representation of it XD.

Yeah... Shou is so - so. Tsuraga... he is supposed to have a cool image, so  :swt: his not really a bishie.
Rakuto definitely is though.  :dignose: Okay, stop criticizing your seniors before you. >_< CALL ME SEMPAI :D

Tbh i'm looking forward to the airing of the drama Skip Beat. According to the teaser/trailer i saw, Siwon is shou kun and Tsuraga is Donghae O_O looks weird...but i got confidence in the actress... she has been able to perform quite well O_O

Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: Tsubaki on October 09, 2010, 18:02
I geuss it's pretty hard to gauge who is the most informational source on manga especially since tastes differ alot. But I've read every demographic: shounen, shoujou, seinen, Jousei, Shounen-ai, Shoujou-Ai, Yaoi(One chapter of one manga or so before getting disgusted.), and a book classified as yuri with nothing interesting in it >.<.

I've read around 300 series with some having fewer scanlated chapters then others but on the other hand I only started reading scanlated series about 3,5 to 4 years ago while I read some as books translated in my language 8 years ago. So i barely read anything outside of yu gi oh and Dragonball back then.

Also I can'say I have fewer experience at anime because I find Anime quite boring compared to manga so I'd rather spend my time reading manga :)
Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: icewing on October 09, 2010, 18:12
you're missing 2. smut and kodomo. i've read all of those before xD.

i've read a couple hundred but the ones that i really LIKE are naruto (the 5 hundred chapters and 300 episodes of anime) and KHR (about 300 chapters and 100 something episodes of anime). and some other ones xD. so...that's about..... 16000 pgs of manga and 400 episodes of anime. aka...8000 minutes of anime. just those two. and other ones add up to....idk. O_O.
Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: Tsubaki on October 09, 2010, 18:24
Its pretty hard to add up all the other manga to pages XD. especially since some manga can have 60 pages while other have 15 per chapter.

I do like KHR but I couldnt interest myself in naruto. I do occasionally read the manga though. Since everybody always tells me the important things that happen I can follow the story and read the things that interest me like characters almost dying  :swt:

lol jk :=X: gave up yaoi for abt 1year+ then all of a sudden I was in the hots to pick it up again.

Nyummm for BL fangurls, I'd recommend Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (Nakamura Shungiku) & Super Lovers (Abe Miyuki).

Shoujo lovers can try Cheese in the Trap! It's really interesting - not your average shoujo. Maybe it's not even shoujo ??? combi of psychological + mystery.

I really want everybody to read this manga. It's cute and has a great storyline (:

KOKO NI IRU YO ;)

Summary

Hikage is a reclusive 8th grader who no one seems to notice her. She finds comfort by planting a sunflower at school and in her blog, with only 2 people who comment on it, MegaPIG and Black Rabbit. They listen and give Hikage advice on everything. But, everything changes one day when two cute boys notice her. These boys are the most popular kids in the entire school, Teru and Hinata. Yeah cyboy has a good plotline, but cliche ending.
I liked the last part where somebody from his past came out.
I just hated the ending.

:)

one thing that they could improve was maybe the hasty conclusion that the girl and the guy had. Like she came back to Japan from America and they got married instantly o-o

i've been reading the top-viewed shoujo that is completed under mangahere.

so far, the one i really liked and still liked in Beauty Pop. Others pale in comparison.
It was just nice.
Not too over, and not too little.

I totally got cheated by Yoko Mai or Miki.

The manga is Taranta Ranta.
The ending was somewhat resembling Skip Beat anime's ending.
which made me feel damn pissed off.

I loved Beauty Pop and Cat Street! Will have to check out Bitter Virgin...

While I love me some shojo manga, most of my faves are more on the slice-of-life or comedy side. Or violent  :swt:

My all-time favorite manga that you might not have already heard about is the beautiful Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko(u). For a laugh (and romance...eventually, lol) may I recommend Yankee-kun to Megane Chan (and the drama!), Arakawa Under the Bridge and Oresama Teacher. And if you're into cocktails and slice-of-life- Bartender is a must-read ^^

it's one of the few yaoi mangas i've read...
Title: Re: . : + MANGA RECOMMENDATIONS + : .
Post by: Ryu on April 23, 2011, 14:52
Hm... Well, there's nothing wrong with yaoi for me. As long as 1) the art is good, 2) the plot is good, or 3) it makes me laugh.  :=X:
I just finished White & Black. http://www.mangafox.com/manga/white_black/
It's about angels~   It's actually quite touching - I recommend it.

I read quite a few nice shounen-ai manga:
Asterisk (angels again)
Cello Mellow
Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike!
Koori no Mamono no Monogatari (demons!)
Silver Diamond
My Precious
Rust Blaster (Yana Toboso~)
Super Lovers
The Visitor ( :touched: )
Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru (actually, it's classified as shoujo... >.>)
Voice or Noise
Rasen no Kioku ( :crywithno: )
Monochrome Factor (the manga isn't really shounen-ai, but the anime sure as heck is. =.=)

And for those who want "normal" manga (<_<):
KUROSHITSUJI!!!  :shy:
[zion]
D.Gray-Man
07-Ghost
Fullmetal Alchemist (complete)
Bleach
Naruto
Pandora Hearts
Angel Sanctuary (mature, a little disturbing at points, and infers a very small amount of shounen-ai)
Are You Alice? (convoluted. read at your own discretion)
Witch Hunter
Spiral - Suiri no Kizuna (HIGHLY recommended)
Record of a Fallen Vampire (HIGHLY recommended)
Ilegenes (bishies~  :woohehe: )

So, yeah. You guys can go eat through that list.  :swt:
