Title: Guideline: Cleaner
Post by: Xye on July 14, 2009, 15:01
Things you should know:

- All files must be saved in .PNG format
- Save in PSD if you are doing cleaning only.
- All files and folders names should follow the naming rule (refer to Here (http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=5.0))
- Always keep a .psd version of your work (at least until the chapter is released).
- It is strongly suggested that you have a mediafire or megaupload account, so that your files will not be deleted.

- Set image mode to GrayScale
- Image width: 730px (If raw is smaller than 730px, use a Denoise and a Sharpen filter after resizing.) Double spreads and covers should be 1460px.
- No specks on white at 100% zoom with dark layer on (don't have to be strict on this if the raw is bad)
- Black areas should be black.
- Clean SFX out if possible. Can leave the hard to clean ones out.
- Remove all Page Numbers
- Stamp the group stamp at every 3 to 5 pages (found Here (http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=3.0))
- Always keep a duplicate of the raw layer at the bottom in order to facilitate typesetting later.

- You are NOT required to redraw a double spread (but you are free to do so if you want to). Just leave a blank space separating the 2 pages.
- Make sure if the raws are scanned in as two sheets but they aren't double spreads (the drawing starts on one page and ends on the other, ie one large page) you have to separate them!
- You are expected to make the credits page. Or find someone to do it. (You can make your own OR take a sample from the "Credits page".)
- All credits can be found in the Job Spreadsheet in the forum or in the specific thread of that chapter (if not sure, Ask).
- Don't forget to add the Recruitment page!

- All Pages, Stamps, Tools needed can be found under "Staff Corner" in the forum.

When upscaling an image, a better alternative to using denoise + sharpen would be the topaz denoise filter.

I have a perhaps dumb question, but I need to know:

About your sizing: "Image width: 730px (If raw is smaller than 730px, use a Denoise and a Sharpen filter after resizing.)"
I understand that you size on the width, which causes a small issue for me; What about the covers and spreads? I've only sized on the height before, and the tutorial seem to size on the height as well, so I'd be grateful if someone could inform me of what you do here.  ???

For double spreads its 1460px wide. (730 x 2) Height doesn't really matter. I never really pay much attention to it. For cover pages if they're suppose to be like two pages (Similar to a double spread) then I'd say 1460 px wide. If they are suppose to be like a single page then 730px. I'm not a 100% sure on this so I could be wrong but that's what I do. I'd send a PM to Verdandi as she is head editor. ^^

Thank you Rose. I talked some to Zeph, but it seems I still have some confusion about the cover-cover (there's an adorned cover around the pocket itself) which have those almost half pages that goes inside the pocket's covers, plus the spine. These things are so much easier to deal with when adjusting on the height D;

You can either crop off the flap, or make it a separate page adding white to make it 730px.

Thank you~ I'll try my hand at that.
