Title: Is it considered...
Post by: phillitup on May 19, 2014, 13:00
Is it considered racist when a white girl says she doesn't date black people?
Any opinions, I want a lively discussion *skip

Yes, that's racist. Because she put up the whole race "black people" that she doesn't want to date, she did not clarify why she won't date them but she just put the whole as the victim.

It's racist because you should look at personality instead of somebody's race.

Yup, it is !
You shouldn't reject people based on looks... Though, when it comes to dating, I guess you can say that ?

It's just like saying you prefer dating Asian rather than Spanish guys, I think. Though, talking about black people in a bad way is considered racist right away due to our history.

I depends on who says it, to whom and how  :noway:

I think the concept is a bit nuanced. In dating, you do look at a person's looks before you get to know their personality. Unless you start dating a friend. Not that that friend might not be handsome/cute/whatever. Anyway. Blah. In the end a person's personality is more important than their looks, as personality will last and looks will just decay. We will all end up as shriveled old bats, so better find somebody you want to become a bat with. I'll stop talking now.

hmmm this is an interesting topic actually. i think it would be acceptable if they never actually explicitly said it or mentioned that they wouldn't date a certain type of person.

there's a case for this discussion being different from "why won't you date smokers" b/c that one is something the other person can control (while race clearly isn't, being born into it) - but at the end of the day, i think it all comes down to personal preference tbh cus if you're not attracted to how someone looks then it's probably not going to work out? like you just can't change how attracted you are.

in theory it's better to give the other person a chance, but when you think about it, if the other person knew you were only doing it b/c you were "giving them a chance" that's just pretty sad...

I also agree with you Nielle, personal preference is a big factor in this respect.
