I'm just curious about what everyone speaks. My first language was Tagalog (can barely speak it now :'() and English. I'm currently learning Japanese, Spanish, and relearning Tagalog. Is anyone here learning a different language? How many languages do you speak? What was your first language?
hmm, I speak Mandarin, French, English, really basic Spanish. and uh... want to learn Japanese! <3 What is Tagalog? I never heard of it O_O what country speaks it? ???

I speak Bengali and English~
Learning...quite a few actually =_= Spanish, French, Mandarin, Japanese, German...lol
I so far had one year of Spanish, two years of French, and a year of Mandarin. The other two I am learning by myself, which is not working out too well -_-
I speak Chinese and English.
I've learned quite a bit of Japanese, but typically it's kanji that brings me down xD (funny since you'd think I know it cause I know Chinese >_>... But I can't read or write Chinese D;...)
I learned a little bit of French but forgot most of it. I am looking into learning a bit of Korean as my next language.
Hmm...
I learned how to speak Cantonese since I was born, and then later learned English in School. I also no basic French and can communicate and understand Mandarin. I am totally looking forward to learning Japanese in a couple of years! :o_o:
My first language is English. I've had 2 years of Spanish. I will start learning Latin pretty soon. But I REALLY want to learn Japanese. ( My school no longer offers that language though)
I speak "Vietnam, English, little of Chinese, little of Japanese, little of Korean"!
I want to learn more of Asia top language.
I speak Korean and English
I'm taking french 3 at my high school, but I don't think I would be able to maintain even a basic conversation with a french person.
I don't think my french class is working to well :dignose:

I might try learning Korean during summer break :D
Is it hard to learn Korean? Which is harder? Learning to speak it/understand it or to read the language?
Everyone's so pro!! :wahaha:
I only know chinese and english. And how to read and write them.
To be true i'm really bad and languages. Maybe there's not enough memory space to input more languages! HAHA

I wouldn't know if it's hard to learn it because I was born in korea and it was my first language at one point
If you ask me, it's harder to read, with all the circles and the sticks with boners :wahaha:
I hope you learn korean so we can communicate with each other!
That would be cool xD
I know Bulgarian, English and Spanish almost perfectly and am currently learning Ancient Greek >.<

Eh... I totally agree that french is actually hard. I took it for 3 month and dropped the subject as i have no talent in pronounciation. And French for me was just impossible to pronouce. I had a hard time at it. It was the first and last new language I took. I realised that languages is just not my stuff. :crywithno:

I share your feelings.
Hokkien is not a language, it's a dialect.
@ShiroyukiShiko: From singapore?
@werr: I'm really curious, which part of earth are you from? (I wanna learn ancient AND modern Greek. Just never knew where to learn and where I could you it -.-)
I can speak/read/write English, Chinese and Japanese. Suck in French. Wanna try taking up Korean because it seems popular and wants see how it feels to speak it.
I can speak both Korean and English fluently, read and write english fluently, but as for korean, it's a bit rusty, but I still know how to read and understand more or less, and if I don't, I ask my parents. As for the writing portion in Korean, it's extremely rusty
I pretty much know how to speak and read spanish, but it's been a few years since I dropped the spanish course, so it might be extremely rusty.
@ xdeathcat: I might be able to help if you really want to learn Korean
I live in the United States and I speak English. I took three years total of Spanish, and am one semester away from finishing it. Although failed it.... so in total I succeed only in my native tongue lol :swt:. I would seriously jump on the opportunity to learn Japanese though!!!!
@BleachFreak: That's be great -.- It's all sticks and circles to me and sounds alien. Are you native Korean? =D
@xdeathcat: Yup~ ^^ Born and raised in Korea until 1998. I may not be too good with writing now, but I still do know somewhat. I'll see if I can make a basics chart for you with the pronounciations written in english
okay i feel inferior. hahaha. you all know so many @@
i know english and chinese only ):
want to learn japanese, but have no time to take up courses :O picking bits and pieces of phrases from animes.

There's a difference between Korean age and normal age? o___o
I'll upload it unto the google doc and PM you in a few hours.
And define "normal" age, because I'm used to both my Korean age and my American age, although my Korean age makes me feel so old and both are "normal" to me more or less, even if I was born in Korea and I
should be considering that normal
I mean age is equal to the year you are in now minus the year you are born in? o___o That or how many 365-days passed from the day you were born. So Korean age is something else altogether?
By technicality, yes. In Korea - and if I'm not mistaken, Japan and China as well - if you were to be born in let's say 1990, where you would be considered 20 in US, you'd be considered 21 in Korea
Why 21 o___o That's plus one. Or does Korea have a different calendar like the chinese zodiac one?
If I'm born in 1990, november, then I'd be either 19 now, or 20 this year right? So if it's in Korea, I'm 21? @confused@
In Korea, China and Japan (if China and Japan does it the same as Korea, which I'm positive they do), if you're zero year old, you're not even considered to be born - yet. But the second you're born, it's basically the doctors saying, "Hey! Congratulations! You got a healthy one year old!"
OH. OOOOOH. Now I get it. Thank you. I'd like to stick with my age without plus one. Lol.

Spanish! Anda, por fin alguien con quien ablar en espanol <3 De donde eres?
Wow so talented so many languages!
I wonder if translators can work for a substantial amount of money...... :goodmood:
My french Teacher/tutor told me that if you have learned French, Portuguese and Spanish will be a breeze.
She told me she knew those languages and that when people are amazed at that...shes sorta embarassed and say...they are pretty much 1 language. Since they are Romance Languages after all. look it up if you don't know
btw BleachFreak, Vietnam does that too...i'd be considered about 16 turning 17 by now then since they count the 9 months you were in the stomach xD
yes, you're right.. they are romance language.. so, there are a little bit "easier" to learn... if you learn latin first, then Spanish, Franch and Portuguese are much easier... :goodmood: I'm from Cordoba, Argentina  (NOT Buenos Aires) German Translator are the most well paid translators.. as they are paid for the number of letters the word has.. but, English Translators are well paid also.. :goodjob:
If they are all nearly the same, then wouldn't it be hard to not mix them? French and spanish are hardly alike <-- clearly biased
Anda, por fin alguien con quien ablar en espanol <3 De donde eres?

My first language was Mandarin. But then my parents wanted me to use English so that people could understand me in my daycare. I now know how to speak Mandarin, English, French, Spanish, and Latin.

Not exactly liking it, though. I take a class with native Spanish-speakers, and they make me feel so inferior. =_=
I really, really, really wanna learn Japanese~ But I have no time, and Japanese is not exactly the most useful language in RL. :touched:
I also don't know Mandarin or Cantonese even though I'm Chinese (my parents are both Canto). Practically my whole family can speak Cantonese, but not me!

Um, other than English I can understand food related dialogues in Mandarin, insult people in Cantonese and speak basic Teochew, though my accent is honestly atrocious. I've heard natives of the language speak it and I sound totally different to them. Perhaps I can call it pseudo-TeoChew? OTL
I'm also studying Japanese. Hoping to get N2 by the end of this year~ (m-manga is a great motivator, lol :hmmm:) And I want to learn French or Spanish or maybe try my hand at Korean again.
Since I live in France I speak French,
A bit of English,
and Spanish.
I can speak arabian but cannot write it
Currently learnimg latin
And I learned some words from Greek xD (hello, thanks, sorry etc... since it's the most used ones !!)
=_= I'm attempting to teach myself korean...
lol... :indotz:
My native language is Spanish, I know some English and currently learning Japanese.
Maybe I should learn a dialect from my country before they disappear.
Ok so:
my first language is German, but I'm also completely fluent in English (my English was actually better that my German for some time...). I studied Latin for 2 year, but forgot almost all of it :D. I know enough French to get by, but I'm not really good at it and it's the same with Romanian. Of course I know those few standard words and phrases in Japanese but that's about it from that language.
My goal is to become fluent in at least 5 languages, cause I simply love being able to communicate with people in their own language. :D
hmmm...
My native language is Romanian. I am fluent in English and French (but I hate speaking French). I can understand Spanish, Portuguese and Italian almost perfectly, but I can neither speak nor write them. I've studied Latin for a few years, and since it's very close to my native language, it was kinda easy for me to learn it. I know basic Hungarian, since there are quite a few Hungarians here in Transylvania and, inevitable, I've learned a bit of their language (especially curses). I've absorbed Japanese by watching retardedly huge amounts of anime and reading raw manga pages, plus a bit of self-study.
My first languages are English and Arabic (I learned them at the same time) and I also know Spanish and am learning Punjabi
hello !
I'm learn English...
I speak Spanish, Arabic, French (of course)...
Your English is so cute Ela.
It's "I'm learning English"
But hey, English is the hardest language to learn. We've got so many wierd rules and such so I'm proud of you. :goodjob:
Anyways, I took a year of Spanish, a year of French and obviously I know English. I'm better at reading French and English then producing it. :touched:
I'd like to learn Japanese so i could be a translator, but that sounds like a lot of work and time I don't have. ha.
uuh i speak dutch as i'm a dutchie
then a bit german
english
and trying to learn jap
Shoutout! If I hadn't had adventurous ancestors, I would be speaking Dutch. As it is, I know a few words, but I'm better at saying them than spelling them, and that's not saying much. They say that Dutch is not so much a language as it is a throat disease... XD
Instead, I speak English and am somewhat conversant in Spanish with a goal of someday being fluent.
Yay a fellow Dutchie! :touched:
It is ot a throaty disease! I don't like it much, but that is just too harsh!
I speak Dutch and English fluently, and able to understand/read French, Spanish and German.
Hm... Well, I learned English and Spanish concurrently, but I learned Spanish by ear and went to school in the U.S.A. Therefore, I have no idea where accents are supposed to be placed and while I can understand 99% of the vocabulary thrown my way, my own ability to converse is limited to Junior High or High School level words. :indotz:
In terms of schooling, I've taken:
- Half a year of Latin (... but it's gone now)
- Half a year of Korean (and I'm teaching myself the other half atm)
- One year of French
- One and a half years of Japanese (I still remember the majority of it + yay JDrama and anime vocabulary!)
- Two years of German (and promptly forgot 1.5 years of it)
I've always wanted to take Arabic and Russian, but the logical person in me has stated that I should probably polish up the languages I've started to learn before I attempt any more. Otherwise, I'm likely forget what I still remember... :crywithno:
:O wow! you learned so many languages!!!
Now I'm wondering where you are from...
ah...recently, i've been attempting to learn korean.
:swt: too impatient to wait for eng subs.
I NEED MAH KDRAMAS. :indotz:
I speak Chinese, but I'm learning how to write and read it xD.
I'm also learning Japanese, vietnamese and spanish.
Japanese: so that I can understand anime better than the subtitles -.-
Viet: my sister in law is viet and is already teaching me how to under stand it :D
Spanish: I live in texas...close to mexico;eventually there's going to be loads of people who I don't understand.
Spanish is a great language! South-American Spanish is different from the original Spanish though :=X:
