Transcendence

I don't normally post the stuff I write publicly, but I felt like doing it for once.
I wrote this for a poetry contest at my library...in about 20 minutes, the night before the deadline... *dead


The Last Wanderer

I stand in a dark, still world.
The silence stretches before me.
All sounds are muffled,
But the whispers of the trees.

I walk through a cold, empty world.
The night yawns around me.
My presence remains unnoticed;
There is no one around to see
This watcher who wanders through
The night devoid of dreams.

I live in a dark, lonely world.
The silence spreads through eternity
And my existence leaves no trace,
For there is nothing left of me.
The stars watch over me in my isolation
But offer no reply to silent pleas.
I gaze above at the vast, desolate sky
And shrink beneath that boundless sea.

As I walk through this cold, dead world
A shade among shadows,
I join my soundless voice
To the murmurings of the trees.

I am so alone.
I am so alone.

Thank you very much! I haven't written any poetry in a really long time and did this on a whim at 2am as I was getting ready for bed, so I think it turned out pretty decently considering.
