Title: Posting Rules
Post by: Zephyr of the Mist on October 17, 2012, 22:59
I made this for all of us students who occasionally get stuck on a homework question and need someone to ask.  We have no shortage of variety, there are at least a couple Comp Sci people here, at least one Horticulturist *waves*, a couple assorted Arts majors and many many high school students who are learning all the things that college students have forgotten by sophomore year. Not to mention all the people who can help with Foreign Language.

I ask that you consider a few things before posting:

  1.  Please, don't ask for people to do your homework for you, most half-intelligent teachers can tell if someone else wrote it, and when doing math problems you have to show your work to get full credit these days.

  2.  When you have a question, make a new topic that is as specific as possible, that way you might end up answering someone else's question later.
[Ex: Meiosis vs mitosis, how are they different?]

  3.  Locking the thread is NOT required. Someone else might have a question that's a variation of yours and can piggyback.

  4.  Check to see if someone's already answered your question.  The search box up in the top corner is a handy thing.

  5.  CALLING SOMEONE'S REQUEST FOR CLARIFICATION STUPID WILL NOT BE TOLERATED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We all have things we're bad at, I can't remember a geometry or graphing equation to save my life and I can't code, but I know more about how to grow my own food than most of you.  Be tolerant of other peoples weaknesses and I won't boot you off the board.

What a great idea! I'm no longer in school, but I was an art major, so I can help with anything in that field.  I also studied psychology, philosophy, English literature, and theatre, so I may be of some use there as well.

I'd probably understand C code, but no, I don't know how to program an IC.

I always wanted to pick up some programming skills. I haven't really touched it since 8th grade - and that was mandatory.

Aside from that, if anyone has chemistry questions, that's my specialty.

This is an awesome idea! Here's my areas of proficiency:

Humanities (especially Lit, History and Art)
Soft sciences (Anthropology and Sociology)
Hard sciences (Biology, Earth Science)
Comp Sci
Languages (Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, ASL, and moderate Japanese)
Maths (Algebra, Trig, Calculus)

And! I am the research queen, and a great proofreader, if I do say so myself. So please feel free to bounce ideas off of me.  :goodjob:

That's not true, Ange. You're fluent in a few languages too! :goodjob:

I'm good at:
- British English, English literature (the Australian and British kind)
- Research (I have access to scholarly databases which helps heaps)
- Basic Tagalog, Bisaya, Mandarin
- Business theories, accounting, international business processes, finance, trade, investment, countries (culture, laws, and business)
- Law and ethics, precedents
- Whatever I can recall from AP Maths: some Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry

Not as impressive as some people but I will definitely try my best to help, if need be.

False attempt at modesty! You can't post a list like that and be like, "it's not very impressive..."  BULLCRAP.
