Title: typesetting question..
Post by: katrinayabu on June 08, 2012, 15:01
i don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask this question.. but i'm always wondering if which one is better: putting text sideways or aligning it vertically?
sample #1 : attachments 1 & 2
sample #2 : attachments 3 & 4

feel free to delete this one if i violated the posting rules..

I'm honestly not sure which is considered "correct". I haven't been typesetting very long.
But I personally prefer having it placed vertically like in example 2 because I think it's easier to read.

xD I don't recognize any of these...
(they look...shounen-ish)

[spoiler]I'm assuming this is not shoujo. I haven't had much experience with typesetting other genres, but I do know they follow a different set of rules (especially shounen)
Generally, for any manga, you RARELY do vertical text.

In the first one, "onegaishimasu" could be translated as "please", so there's no need to make the text vertical...(if it doesn't fit, just make the font smaller. O_O)

hope this helps! ^_^

I saw some tutorials in the web, it says:

- Avoid vertical and sideways text because it's hard to read (slanting is good, sideways is bad).

I personally think that vertical texts are hard to read. I saw some SFXs vertically but speech/thoughts, I never saw one.
