Title: Old *grumble*
Post by: verdandi on May 15, 2012, 21:49
So....are most people here in college or high school?

I feel old.  I'm 27 and about to be married on Saturday (no ceremony or anything; we're just signing the papers because the ceremony is on hold until we get some other things settled.  But still.  I'm going to be a married woman! ACK!).

Then I look down and see all the upcoming birthdays and the ages...17...17....17...22....17....23...

HOLY HELL

Don't worry about the age. :)  We do have quite a big age range here and you're not the oldest that's been here before :P But I guess most people here are in their teens or early twenties.

LOL Thank you, Charmy!

I keep picturing myself like the middle-aged mother who reads tons of shoujo manga.  That will probably be me. D:

Angel, I don't miss the tests and 10-page papers I had to write, but I do miss all the research and studying.  Luckily, as a freelancer I need to constantly study to improve my skills, so I don't miss school as much as I did before freelancing lol.

Harrstein, with 8 members, they could all be 20 and you'd still be the youngest... :bingo:

I- I- I mean!  CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D   :=X:  I'm so happy for you!!! :3  Make sure you get some wonderful photos of you, the groom, and the signed death warrant marriage certificate! Ceremony or no, it's still a happy occasion to remember. <3

... I, on the other hand, am currently watching The Girl Who Still Wants To Marry. I find it rather fitting since I also just turned 27 and currently have no marriage prospects.  :wahaha:

Rayne isn't old. She will be just 20 in September. But people tell me I have an "old soul". Even though I act childish. Haha
*shrugs*
Plus I love old(er) people. Well teasing people about being old xD
Jkjk.
Well it is true. I tease Alpha all the time.
But no worries. Rayne thinks your awesome. Every year of life is an accomplishment  :goodjob:
Oh I'm Rayne by the way. Nice to meet you <3 and congratulations on teh marriage <3
Title: Re: Old *grumble*
Post by: verdandi on May 18, 2012, 10:43
Thank you, Rayne! It's nice to meet you too.  I still act childish, too.  For instance, if my brother (24) and I are in a store, we'll pick up whatever long object is around us and have a sword fight.  Complete with death and champion victory dance.

When we were 23 and 20, we had a "cat fight" where we pretended to be cats and stalked each other, pounced, fought, then ran and hid under our beds, hissing.

I shouldn't be admitting to these things, but there you go.  Maturity = gone.

Haha! I have a 4-year-old stepdaughter, so she is a good excuse to keep being silly.  I have come to the conclusion that kids are perfect for people who want to keep acting like kids.  Because when your kids get too old for it, it just embarrasses them which is great itself!

But CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NUPTIALS!
I hope you and your new husband are very happy.

I know you said you were holding off the ceremony but do you have any ideas of what you'd like to do when you get a chance to do it? And since it's been a few months now do you have any time in particular picked out yet?

My fiance and I have talked about after I get my AA and high school degree just signing the papers and then having a wedding ceremony and such a year after.  :=X:

Thank you very much!! It's been a month and I'm enjoying the newlywed state of mind.  *skip

Yes, we had already begun planning the ceremony when life situations took all our money and demanded we postpone.  We are HOPING for May 18th or 19th next year, since we were married on May 19th this year.

The venue is already chosen: a Japanese garden in upstate New York.  The theme is Japanese Flowers, so we'll have artificial cherry blossoms (my favorite flower) and real Casablanca lilies (my other favorite flower).  All the decor for the reception will focus around fluttering blossoms and floating lights.

It may seem a little late in the year for all that, but it's actually right around the season in that region for cherry blossoms.  Sadly, they don't really last when picked so any we use will have to be fake.

You're welcome! I'm glad you are!

Wow! That sounds awesome! I love Cherry Blossoms. They are my favorite as well.  All my scents I use(Shampoo, Conditioner, Deodorant, Body Spray) I try to find in cherry blossom. Then I call it sakura and everyone at my house gets confused.  :=X:

I think you've chosen very well. Its going to be a beautiful, gorgeous wedding. I'm jealous you get to do it in a Japanese garden. It sounds soooo pretty. You'll have to take lots of pictures for us when the time comes. I'd really love to see.

Enjoy it! I hated being a minor; my whole life I couldn't wait to grow up and be independent.  I can't say I regret that, as I wouldn't want to go back to having to rely on others, but I wish I'd have had a little more fun in my teenage years.

Congratulations! That was part of my problem; I lived in a small farming town where the only things anyone did for fun were drugs or go to the mall.  Drugs are and have never been my thing, so I was a mall crawler, but that only gets you so far in entertainment value when you're only income is from babysitting and you can't drive there yourself.

The BEST years are in college.  Those are the ones to savor.

Miki, you are very well-spoken for a 13-year-old!

Ohhhhhhhh I have to share what happened today!

My husband (who's 34) and I were driving down a two-lane road and this random guy was on the wrong side, blocking us.  So my husband (who has a hot temper) stopped and waited for the guy to move, who refused to go to his side and started yelling at my husband.

He finally pulled up next to us and they started arguing.  I was reading and pretty much ignoring it all when my husband started cussing at the guy and he said, "that's fine language to use in front of your daughter."  I just sort of looked at him and quietly said, "I'm his wife.  We're married."  It took him a second to get it before he got really embarrassed and apologized, saying I look really young.

We thought it was so funny!! There's only 7 years difference. :wahaha: :=D: :=X:

I want to move out. A lot. Trust me. But I need to wait another 2 years so I might as well enjoy everything being done and taken care of for me. I'm already preparing myself for university, and that's enough for now. You're a kid only once in your life, I can be an adult for therest of it. Hmm, thatwas a bit of a rant.. Hehe.

Thanks for telling I'm well-spoken  :touched: I never really talked to other people much in public so I wouldn't know.. ehehe.. although I learned a lot from reading tons of books my parents gave me to pass the time... This is probably true! People get much better language skills by reading than speaking.  I think the reason the American language skill is dropping is because so many Americans don't read, but it's still more common in the rest of the world (it seems anyway).

My bookshelf is too full and I don't have room for another one, so I have to borrow all the ones I can and then only purchase things I need for my business (like books on PHP and Java Script and such) since I mark those all up and continue referencing them.

I should get a bunch of books in French to work on my language skills.  I haven't done that in a while.  Thanks for the reminder! lol

Thank you! I used to be very good at French but now I'm only ok.  I want to get back to fluency.

Wow... You were good at French! (I had the subject for 3 years, got straight A's and then decided not to pick it because it was too easy...) I suck at it now tho...
I taught myself the beginnings of English (books) and now I just finished my 4th year of biligual studies at high school. 2 more years to go....  *dead (I love the English tho..)

I love French, personally. I took 4 years of it in high school and some in college. One of my roomies is a french/english education major so I speak in French half the time with her. I think I'm going to learn Chinese for grad school though - there are a lot of Chinese students in chemistry graduate programs (or at least there are at the university I'm research-interning at this summer).

Ahh, Miki and verandi, I completely understand...

I nearly got grounded when I was younger because I didn't want to stop reading at the dinner table.
